View Full Version : Trouble finding good flat cloth nappies
OK - I've got terry towelling nappies that are too small - by the time I fold them I can't even do them up on DS!
And I've got larger flannelette nappies that fold great and are a good size, so I've been using them. But they are very thin and not very absorbant.
My MIL said they used to be able to get thicker flannelette nappies that were much better quality.
I just bought all my nappies from Target, couldn't even tell you what brand they are.
Does anyone know where to get thicker flannelette nappies, if anyone even makes them anymore?
I'm thinking of sewing two nappies together and seeing how that goes!
honey could you fold up your terries .. put them INSIDE your flannelette- (so the terry just runs between the legs??) - that way the flannelette FITS ,, and the TERRY absorbs???
that could at least be a solution for you shortterm ..
the other thing I immediately thought of was an eenie cover .. you could fold your terries and use them in the cover??? (oscar's mum is the eenie queen :) )

How are you folding your terries? I found the JO Fold the best because I could adjust the inital square into more of a rectangle and that then gave the extra width I needed to get around DS's growing belly :D

I think I've seen some places that sell different sized flats - ? I'm not too sure about that though. You can get some very fancy schmancy ones at places like babybeehinds (made out of bamboo) but they're alot more expensive - around $5 each from memory. I'm sure if you found some online you'd be able to find out the dimensions and then see if they're bigger than your current nappies.
The other thing is to look at how you're folding them - different folds allow for more / less nappy to go around the waist / between the legs. My DD is very chubby and I can fit my nappies on her easily enough using the Jo fold and I'm pretty sure they're just "ordinary" nappies (although I didn't actually buy them).
Or if you're keen you could buy some terry / bamboo fabric and sew your own squares - I''m sure it wouldn't be too hard!
Good luck!

I'm using the Big Softies flannelette nappies, which is what my Grandmother had me buy when I was having #1 16 years ago, and they are great.....but
I went to get another packet of them this time, as my machine was not full when I put it on with the amonut I had. Baby Bunting still stocks them, and I did see them in Kmart once a while back.
It wasn't until I hung them on the line the first time I noticed that they are now 5cm smaller than they used to be! Like babies butts have shrunk!!?
The fabric is still good quality, but they are now the same size as the terry ones, whereas they used to be bigger.
Thanks girls!
I'll try the JO fold, though I might need some practice!!
Veve - how creative of you! Here I was going to whip out my sewing machine and stitch flannies together, and never even thought of making thicker liners out of the uselessly small terries I have!
His poos are pretty chunky now so I don't have to sorry much about the "poo-catcher" issue anymore ;) I just need that little more absorbancy at the front.
Little boys eh?!?
Thanks again, a couple of great ideas to try.
:D
