Hi its jaydensmum again. Ive just got an inquiry on my DS weight. When he was 3 months old he only put on 800g since birth while I was bf him. I stopped bf because I thought that it wasnt doing anything for him. The nurse was very worried about him because he was on the bottom 10 percentile. She looked at me like I was starving him. He is now 6 months and is bottle feed and he is still under weight according to the charts. He is under the 50 percentile. He doesnt look overly underweight but he looks skinny compared to others that are his age. He has 5-6 bottles a day and has solids as well. Why isnt he putting on much weight? Im really worried about him but Im also worried about the nurses thinking the worst about me. Can anyone give me suggestions why he would be under weight and what I can do to fix it? Also has anyone else going or gone through the same thing as me? :(
Its hard not to worry but someone has to be in the bottom 50%. Nathan was born in the top 10% but becouse of a few early health issues was not a big drinker as a result at 10mths he is now just under the 50 % line. The other thing to keep in mind is that at around 6mths they become more active and weight gain drops right off. If he is happy and healthy there should be no need to worry.

I am goiny through the same thing at the moment with my second baby, he is 9 months old now and they are worried about him not putting on enough weight, he only put on 80 grams in 2 months. He is a very active boy though cause he has a older brother to chase around after so i am not extremely worried but the doctors are referring us to a pediatrician. Our appointment for the pediatrician is on the 15th so fingers crossed for us.

hi,
My first daughter was in the 50% percentile until she hit 12 months and now she is is the 5 - 10% and she eats like a horse, some babies just have fast metabolisms.
My 2nd daughter is in the 5-10% since birth and no one is worried and i am not, she again probably has a fast metabolism.
If they are happy, active and doing all their milestone things who cares..

I'm with Sandra, my DS has always been in the bottom 5-10% and he's very active. The child health nurse isn't concered, she just thinks he's going to be a little child and then have a big growth spurt during primary school.
I wouldn't worry as long has he's happy and healthy.

My DD was born at around the 75% curve. By 2-3 months she'd dropped to the 20% or so. Like you I switched to formula and she's steadily gained weight since then but is still on the lower curve. She's happy, healthy, and has hit all of her milestones just fine. She's just small and lean. Like others have said, someone in the population has be below the 50% curve (in fact, half the population is! :)) I was always the smallest skinniest in the class, and DH was and still is skinny, and I figure DD is naturally going to be like us.
