View Full Version : Cutting finger nails and toe nails
I have a typical active 15 month old. She never sits still for more than 3 seconds. It is almost impossible to cut her nails. We've tried doing it while she's asleep, in the bath and various distraction methods. None of them seem to work. It is such a battle cutting her nails. Any suggestions as to how I can do it less painfully.

We also had trouble with my dd and then my ds with doing fingernail and toenails.
Now we set up a salon straight after the bath ususal once a week and on Sunday. They take it in turns, first the have their ears cleaned, then their hair brushed. We then do the toe nails first as they are harder because of the tickley feet syndrome which effects most people. Then we do the fingernails.
After they have had that done, they get to paint their toenails and fingernails. You can buy kids nail polish from most toy stores and chemists. It usually peels off or i have some that washes off with warm soapy water. It is a messy exercise but it seems to have worked a treat with my kids. .:)
And so they have tome for their nails to dry, we have drying time where i read a story and then they pretend to pay me for use of the salon and i give them some change. ( a couple of smarties).
I hope this helps, it worked for me. :fingerscrossed:

my ds is a heavy sleeper so i do his finger and toe nails while he is sleeping. if i try while he is awake...it results in either me getting frustrated or ds in tears coz he kicked at the last second as i cut his toenail and is now bleeding :(
My DS loves moisturiser, so I used to tell him that after we cut each toenail (they were our biggest problem) he could put cream on each toe that had been cut. It worked really well. Now I let him moisturise his entire foot / hand after we are completely done. Good luck with it.:)
