Hi Everyone,

DS was born in Feb of this year and I was with Medibank private, but was two weeks short of making the 1 year of prior coverage and they wouldn't budge so I ended up having my son in public :( It was a horrid experience that left me feeling very depressed and It really affected so much of the first few months of my babies life..So I made a promise that I would be with private for future children. We want to start trying for bubs no. 2 next June/July, and what I want to know is what everyone recommends for a health fund??? We are on one wage so I need to be prepared and start saving now! I will be having an elective C - Section (first birth was an emergency c-section), if that makes a difference? Advice welcome :)

hey love,

try googling iselect.. they compare private health companys u could call them too tell them what ur looking for etc..

im with mutual community and i find them great and cheaper than medibank private but then my mum told me about iselect.

i've read about latrobe but maybe thats for interstate people i havent heard about that in S.A

we were with hbf but while cheaper for the same cover, they had excess and gap fees. mbf took care of everything. so it ended up the same.
I was private in a public hospital though (nearest pvt hospital is 500km away) but had a great (for hospital) experience, for the month I was there.

It will depend on what state you are in, and possibly what hospital you go to.

For instance, i am with HBF and i have found them to be reasonable, but only in WA. My sister had to change to another company once she moved to sydney because all of their preferred providers are in WA.
We just went on our hospital tour the other week and they told us that HBF was the only fund that would provide 3 meals a day during my stay in the hosp, the other funds only provided breakfast - which seems odd to me! So i guess it could be worth calling the hospital you hope to use and asking them which funds are better for delivering there

I had a horrible exp with my first in a public hosp, so i am going private this time, and i love it! I hope you have a better experience with #2
