View Full Version : Clomid Question
Hey girls,
I have a friend who is wanting to TTC and her doctor mentioned something about Clomid. She was just wondering approx how much it costs and whether private health insurance covers any of the cost?
Any info would be great!
Thanks.
I got the generic version and it cost me less than $20 i'm sure! It wasn't much anyway and that gave me 3 boxes of 5 tablets i think! I can't remember exactly!
Thanks for the speedy reply Puk, I'll let her know :)

hey puk,
i just saw my GP today who has referred me to a specialist and he also mentioned that i might have to start clomid - how often did you have to take it?
and at what part of your cycle? Did you have any side effects?
Sorry for all the q's :o
I was put on a half dose which was half a tablet every day from day 2 till day 6 of my cycle. I had no noticable side effects but it didn't work for me first time so next time i'm on a full tablet. Apparently they start with a half dose because a full dose is often too much and you end up over-stimulating your ovaries!
Good luck ladies! :)

Clomid isn't covered by private insurance or medicare. Its about $30 for a box of 10, or cheaper if you get the generic brand.
Your doctor will prescribe a certain amount to take, usually they start you off on one or two tablets a day at the beginning of your period for five days, then you get a blood test on day 21 to see how well it worked. The next month he might increase the dose to three tablets or keep you at two for awhile.
Some doctors get you to start on day one of your cycle (1st day of your period), other's on day 5. Depends on their preference.
I think its limited to about 7 cycles you can do on clomid, after that there is a small risk of ovarian cancer and/or just not working so you have to seek a different treatment.
Side effects, well there is a whole list on the pamphlet but I didn't get anything really bad. From memory they can make you feel a bit yukky in the tummy and a funny taste in the mouth.
They say you can get hot flushes, nausea, peeing lots, headaches and depression but like all medicines they have to list everything that is slightly remotly possible.

Sorry to crash in here guys! I paid aprox $38 for my box of 10. Usually you start on day 5 til day 9.
Just wondering about the 1/2 dose. Was that a 50g tab cut in half ? Cos i am on them now, and having a few side effects, and want to lower it? Naughty I know. So is it safe to do this? What would happen if i stop all together? Thanks

If you stop all together you may not get a good ovulation result. How many days have you done? Give your doctor a call and ask for their opinion if its making you really sick. Otherwise hang in there and change the dose on your next cycle after talking to the doc.
