View Full Version : HELP Is it dangerous to TTC now ????
Hi, today i am very :crying: .
In July this year my DH got a bad infection and had high fevers. I just found the following info on the net:
High fever has been observed to have an adverse effect on sperm for 2 to 3 months afterward - sperm take this long to grow from germ cells to mature spermatozoa.
I am now worried that my DH's little guys and gals may not be swimming or may be damaged until about mid october :gloomy: :banghead:
Im so sad, we have been ttc for 10 cycles now and this may put us out of the running for another 2 cycles...
I'm feeling down and need some advice, should we still try to ttc in Aug and October or could this be dangerous to baby if we do conceive?
I am sad, confused and dont know what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey bub2luv
Sorry u r feeling down today. if i was u i would head off to the doctor and ask them what u should do. U r better off asking, that way u know if it's ok to try and won't worry if it is dangerous or not.
I hope that u can continue to try and have some luck soon.
:fingerscrossed: those spermies or all ok.
Good luck :fingerscrossed:

Hi- If your so worried maybe talk to your doctor see what thay say, and maybe get the little guy/gals tested and see how high the count is? maybe with the test thay can tell you more on whats going on with them? :hugs:
Hi bub2luv
Sorry to hear your feeling down - but try not to worry too much (easier said than done!) - IF your hubbys spermies have been affected, then it will have NO affect on a baby conceived from them - the sperm has to be healthy to be able to get to and fertilise the egg - an unhealthy sperm just wont make it to the egg.
But theres a very good chance that your hubbies sperm havent been very affected - particularly if he wasnt hospitalised with fever. HIs sperm count may be downa leetle bit, but it only takes one sperm to fertilise that eggie! Some women still conceive after their husband's sperm count has been diagnosed as being too low for conception to occur!
So don't stress - get a sperm test from your doc if u want for peace of mind, but because the sperm would jsut have been affected for a short period, it shouldnt take long for numbers to build back up again.
Hope this helps
Best of luck and got my :fingerscrossed: that this is your month!

If you are feeling up to it there is no harm in trying, I actully had a bad flu when I ovulated last and ended up pregnant! I think that the flu made me lie down for 5 days and stop running and around and stressing out about stuff helped :)
Hi, Thanks for the support,
I talked to my DH last night and we have decided to keep ttc
If the sperm have been compromised then obviously fertilisation wont happen but there is no harm in trying right!
When my DH was unwell he had a temp over 40 and got to the point that he was delerious. He spent 1 night in hospital and a week on IV antibiotics. He recovered quickly so we went straight back to ttc and didnt really worry about it - we never knew that high fevers could damage sperm.
I suggested to DH we see his doc just to check out the little guys and gal but he said he really didnt want to, he would rather just wait and see what happens.
Thanks for all the support, keep your :fingerscrossed: for me!
