Hi all!..

Kind of embarassing, but being pregnant this time round I have found that I have had bad gas pains. I'm sorry if this is TMI for you all, but I was wondering if there is anything that anyone could suggest to fix these problems. :( I have regular bowel movements, (another TMI moment) however I woke last night in severe pain from gas pains. It was shocking, so I toddled off to the loo, but that didnt seem to fix the problem. I ended up just having to sit upright at the side of my bed until the pain went away! No amount of trying to pass wind would work! And here I was thinking, I could do with them gfood old charcoal tablets right about now, but I don't know if they are safe to take whilst pregnant.

I don't know whether it had anything to do with the fact that I had one chocolate covered liquorice stick last night, as I normally don't have any problems with it.

This morning I had another lot of gas pains, which were painful but not as bad as last nights version.

If anyone has any ideas about how to fix this embarassing problem that would be greatly appreciated!

Again, I am sorry if all of this is a little TMI!

not sure how to fix them, check with the chemist, I could imagine that charcoal would be ok, as its natural??

I have similar things, I vaguely remember waking up last night with bad pain, this morning i cant remember if I was dreaming or if it was real...

I don't want to scare you uncessarily, but bad gas pain was the only symptom I got with my Ectopic Pregnancy. Up until I collapsed 3 times in a row that is! If you are under 8 weeks pregnant and still suffering I would go to hospital to be sure the pregnancy is visible in the uterus. (Most ectopics flare up by 8 wks) I have made 2 other long posts about my experience if you want to read them or PM me. Better to be safe than sorry.

I'm 9 weeks 3 days today, so I am past the 8 week mark. I am hoping that I have no more of the gas pains, but I may try charcoal tablets from the chemist to see if they help. But if I experience anymore severe gas pains I will surely go see my GP.

Thanks for your reply..! :)

Thanks Nuddle,

I might go to the chemist if I have any more problems with the gas pains. It really isnt a pleasant thing to have, but I am hoping they will go away. I will also try and steer clear of gassy substances, although that's abit hard because I really love my Coca-Cola!

yeah, that is hard, let me know what the chemist sais about the charcoal, if its safe or not. And I agree with the above post too, might be worth a trip to the dr, might get an ultrasound out of it, you never know, better be safe then sorry...

My 8 weeks was not scientific. Just a majority thing from my research. I would get to hospital ASAP if you have any more pain of any kind. But having said that my pain completely disappeared by the time I got to hospital (my tube had ruptured by then) and I thought they would send me home as I had no idea I was pregnant. But any woman with abdominal pain is assumed pregnant until proven otherwise. Lucky they tested me! They took my symptoms very seriously so don't hesitate to go get checked out. Even if there is nothing to worry about you'll get an early ultrasound out of it and get to see bub's heartbeating. Sorry to worry you. Hopefully it was just the liqourice!

Hi again,

I was just on the phone to the midwife of the Women's Health Centre here, and told her about my gas problems, and she didn't seem too concerned with them. She mentioned at this stage you are prone to constipation and wind problems. She said that if it got any worse to definitely seek medical attention and go from there, but she said to not be worried at this stage as it seems the gas problem has worked itself out. I have an appt on 19th Sept at my local hospital, to which I will be checked out then if everything is okay in the meantime. So that is good news, I can stop worrying now for a while! :)

Just thought I would let you all know!

I know first hand how much it hurts because I suffer from really bad IBS and gas/colic pains are one of the symptoms.

Best thing for me is to take 2 extra strength Mylantas, which are fine during pregnancy. It helps to disperse the gas bubbles.

Make sure you buy extra strength ones.

Also, sipping on dry ginger helps me. And try very hard to pass wind. Sometimes massaging just under your boobs at the very top of your tummy in the middle can help move the gas around.

I hope I could be of help. I have been suffering like this since yr 2000.

Rhiannon you know, being an IBS sufferer too, I can now tell you, that is what the early contractions feel like...

Hi all,
Sorry to gate crash the thread, but I suffered the same thing only up until a few weeks ago with my current pregnancy. Went to the chemist and was put onto De-Gas as well - they became my new best friend!!! It was the only thing that worked, and I suffered for around 5 - 6 weeks with the problem.

De-Gas all the way - highly recommend it

I can't get over how I can have absolutely no problems like this with my first pregnancy, and now all of a sudden with the second I am getting Gas, & Morning sickness... I guess I was just lucky the first time round hey? ;)
