Hi there
Just wondering if anyone knows if its ok to take Evening Primrose Oil while pregnant. I took it regularly before pregnancy and it helped with mood swings, I felt much more balanced. I'm 18 weeks pregnant now and feeling quite bonkers at times, I think I need some help and EP Oil springs to mind. Does anyone know if its harmful to bub??? Thank you all.
Regards

Hey there,
I am not entirely sure - but it would hurt to run it past your midwives/obs. They are certain things we should take etc, and they would be ones know would know.
If you can't, they maybe able to suggest something else for you.
EPO is a no-go when pregnant unfortunately! It is great for trying to conceive but all the advice is to stop taking it and change to flaxseed oil at ovulation time because apparently EPO can cause uterine contractions - clearly not desirable during pregnancy!
I'm not sure if it is only dangerous in the early stages.. might still pay to check. But there is plenty of info on the net and everything I have read says no EPO while pregnant. You'll have to find another wonder cure. ;)
Hi quinellasmum,
I too was taking EPO before I found out I was pregnant but was advised to stop taking because it apparently causes uterine contractions or something like that. I now take flaxseed oil tablets but of course they don't help with the moods etc. I just spoke to the natropath at the healthfood shop i go to so maybe you could speak to someone and they could help you.
cheers
I'm 20 weeks pg now, and was taking it before i was pg, and still am - well was - I guess I'd better stop! Oops!

Thank you everyone for your replies...its a bit of a tricky one. My health food staff was no help to me, they weren't really sure. Maybe a change of routine and more sleep will help my problem some.
Thanks again
