I am looking for an activity that I can take my 7 month old DD to. We don't get out much (due to needing to be home for her sleeps) and I'm worried that she isn't getting enough stimulation being home all of the time. I want her to get used to people and noise. I was considering taking her to gymbaroo as an activity but I don't know much about it. Has anyone tried it? How did you find it?

Or any suggestions for a good group activity would be appreciated.

i haven't done gymbaroo, but i would see if your local library does a baby rhyme time session instead  it's free, so you don't have to stress about getting to it each week as you haven't paid a fee. I've heard good things about gymbaroo, but it's to expensive for me, as i wouldnt get there each week, i'm too disorganised! :p

We did Gymberoo and had a great time. There was singing and bells and lots of activities it was so much fun. We only did for a term, the buget wouldn't stretch that far. Definately great for stimulation.

How much does Gymbaroo cost?

How much does Gymbaroo cost?

I think it's nearly $20 a session, $18 or something like that. Much to much IMO.

Hmmm thanks for that. Yeah it seems a lot, I already have 3 kids in swimming which is $20 each each week (so $60 a week) might wait til he's older, I was thinking of putting Nathan in.

i know the YMCA does similar classes for heaps cheaper, but not everywhere and i don't think many places do them for toddlers, mainly preschool and up, but worth looking in to.

Def look into it. I think maybe it'd be cheaper to just buy some climbing frames and stuff at have him (and the girls) do stuff at home.

Try a PCYC in your area. The one near me does something similar to Gymbaroo. Under 6 months to 2years it is called Wonky Walkers and 3-5 is Kindy Kids. Best of all it is only $7.

I don't think they do that around here. :(

Holy Moly  That's ridiculous!! I was expecting it to be about $10. I have been contemplating taking DS because he adores dancing and music, but there is no way I would pay that much

If I only had one kid then maybe I'd consider it, I might think about putting just Nathan in next year seeing as though the girls will be doing calisthenics, but then again with swimming as well it all adds up.

I took DS for a couple of terms. That age is a good age for it. I think its about $175 per term.
We stopped taking him though because the ages of the groups didnt seem to fit around him very well, he was too physically developed for one group, but not mentally developed enough to go into the older group, so he'd kind of get bored and overwhelmed and just run off. Then he got sick and only went a few weeks out of a term

It might be good to do just for a term to get some ideas for things to help her along with development and for activities to stimulate her. Its lots of dancing and rolling and movement stuff.

Have you looked into Kindermusik? Most teachers welcome people for a free trial class.

Otherwise, library rhyme time is excellent.

we did gymbaroo for nearly a year and we loved it until the franchise changed hands and then it wasnt as good. it was fairly expensive (nearly $20 per week) but once we stopped we started taking her to the library for story time and that was wonderful.

I have starting taking DD to Baby Rhyme Time at the Library which has been great. It only goes for a half an hour so it fits in well with her sleeps & she seems to really enjoy it. Mummy has to brush up on her nursery rhymes though

Are babies/toddlers expected to just sit there at the library during story/nursery rhyme time. I doubt my almost 18 month old would do that.

I'm curious too. DS would NEVER sit down for nursery rhyme time  He loves sitting down reading books at home, but he has to be in the mood for it, and I know it would not happen in the library surrounded by other children and new things to see. He would likely be running around trying to play with the kids/climb things/hang upside down from the bookshelves LOL.

I need an *active* learning activity he can do outside of the home. I'm looking into Kindermusik, it sounds good (thanks for the suggestion!)

My ds wanders around at story time, its not really the idea but noone gets upset about it. I figure it teaches him thats what you do at story time, it'll just take him a while to get there- he used to run off at gymbaroo too! Next attempt might be swimming lessons- but i am not a big beleiver in starting before 3

^^ DS loves swimming, he is able to be really active and burn his energy in the pool, and he always has a good time. He's very...spirited. He wouldn't just wander around at rhyme time, he would run around crazily, try to climb things and yell out, and then throw himself on the floor wailing if I pull him back down. I will give nursery time a shot, but I honestly think I know how it will turn out :D He's just that sorta kid!

I'm doing gymbaroo with my DD who's nearly 8 months. She loves it- music and songs but also it is good for their development- lots of tummy time helping them to crawl, etc... It is quite expensive 170 dollars fo the term but I didn't mind trying it out and might do it again next year.

Nathan does swimming, he loves it though after a while he does want to try and swim off by himself. He's not ready for that just yet though.

That is expensive. At our local indoor pool DS is in a preschool class, and DD is in the last parent in the pool class before she goes without me and we pay $80 each for a ten week term. So that is $16 a week for two swimming lessons plus most weeks DH and I have a swim and play with the kids after the lessons, so it works out to be a pretty cheap Saturday morning family activity.

We also go to Kindy Gym at PCYC on and off, it is pay by the session $5 per child. We only go on and off because my DS is nearly 4 and tends to get a little bit bored, especially if there are more younger kids at a session. It is perfect for 2-3yrs, and DD really enjoys it.

Gymbaroo website looks good.....but just too expensive unless there is nothing else in your area.

:iagree: PCYC all so do a classes like Gymbaroo. The class at pcyc near me is $3.50 per session it's on 2 times a week. You don't have to go to every class.
