I know that DS is way too young to wear a necklace but at what age can children start wearing them? My brother got him a greenstone pendant (NZ) and i cant wait for him to wear it, he'll look so cute - i know it will probaly be a couple of years away.

Both my boys wear necklaces, they both started wearing them when they turned one. My ds#1 wears a St. Christopher and an Angel pendant on a gold chain and my ds#2 wears a cross on a gold chain. My ds#2 has snapped a few chains since he turned 2 but otherwise he have never had any problems. My ds#1 also had a gold ID bracelet engraved with his name and dob he wore from birth until it was too small for him to wear. My df's sister's boys have worn jewellery since the day they were born as it is in their father's culture. They both wear necklaces, anklets and bracelets.
Is the pendant on a leather thong?
If it is, then he could start wearing it now, just make sure that you take it off at sleep times. As long as the thong is fairly short, there is not much chance of it getting caught when playing or twisted tightly around his neck.
My ds used to wear a necklace of wooden beads threaded onto hat elastic ... it sat snugly against his throat, but had give if he played with it and it was easy to slip on and off for sleeptimes. He looked really gorgeous in it! Unfortunately, he doesn't want to wear it now:crying:

For religeous reasons (although we r not overly religeous, DS was christened greek orthodox) DS received a gold chain with a solid gold cross on it which hes worn since he was 13months and has NEVER taken it off. He knows its there but doesn't care coz its nothing new anymore. He will wear it till he's 18 when he'll get a new one which he'll wear 4ever (or till he loses it then he gets a new one!)
He also wears a gold ID bracelet too. At first they play with whatever jewellery u put on them but once the novelty wears off it just becomes un-interesting to them.

Thanks everyone. I had no idea that bubs could wear them so young. Im just a bit paranoid about him strangling himself so i think i'll wait a little bit longer. Thanks

My DD has a neclace which I brought her when she was 11 months old. She only wears it on special occasions though & I keep an eye on her making sure she doesnt get it caught on anything. She also has a little bracelet, I think bubs look so cute wearing them but like with everything else you just have to keep an eye on them when they are wearing them.
