Hi everyone!

I'm new to the bub hub. DH & I decided to start trying for 2nd bub a couple of weeks ago so I had the implant removed on the 24th Aug. GP said that I should get a really heavy AF within couple of days (approx 25th).

Still haven't had anything & its been 2wks. My question is - is it possible to concieve in the 1st few days? I don't think its possible but have no idea why my af hasn't arrived. Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated.

I was on Implanon (though not TTC) and it took about 3 months after coming off it (I was on a estrogen pill whilst on Implanon as the progesterone only from implanon sent me batty and that's another story) to get a regular period again after the pill. A friend of mine had Implanon and removed it when she was ready to start TTC and it took her 8 months. It can remain in your system for quite a while. If you haven't had a period for a few months I'd go back to your GP and see what he recommends.

Its a relief to hear from others who have used it. Everyone I've asked has dealt with it so I was getting quite frustrated.

Implanon just about drove me up the wall - dh said I was more hormonal on Implanon than I ever was whilst pregnant! I was literally getting my AF every 2nd week & lasting a week at a time.

My Gp put me on estrogen as well to calm it down & it did for awhile. It got worse just before I got it taken out (AF one day nothing the next & then AF again etc). After 8mths on it, I decided enough was enough!

Sorry for the rant but no one else understands unless they've used it too.

Cheers

Kate, I tried implanon a few years back and lasted 6mths before giving up on it. Same as you - mood swings, breakthrough bleeding. Shocking. Don't remember how long it took for AF to come back but I do know I wouldn't recommend Implanon to anyone!

Good luck!

About a year ago my periods were every couple of weeks or so...I had come off the pill about 8 months before and it just wasnt settling down!

I asked the doctor about Implanol and she was against it. She said that women who have problems with their periods to start with often get constant bleeds or every week or so. She also said that once it is taken out it can still take up to a year for everything to settle down again!

I really hope that it sorts out for you soon!!! But dont worry, you arent alone!!!

Hi, I had implanon a couple of years ago and it worked fine for 6 months and then i started getting brack thru bleeding. When i had it removed in the middle of Sept i got AF one month later in oct and the started TTC and failed in Nov but was pg by Dec so don't be too discouraged. I think it may be differnet for everyone but i would go back to the Dr for a check up if Af hasn't arrived after 4-5 weeks.
Goodluck.

all i can say is i would NEVER use implanon again!!! I was on it for 12 months or maybe even longer. During that time i was going to get it out numerous time but i was busy and didnt get around to it. I finally did as my partner and i decided that it would be best because it was making me moody and getting me down alot. My periods would come and go but sometimes would come at 3 month intervals. It took me 2 months (or less) to concieve after implanon was taking out, no time at all!! I got my period almost straight away after getting it removed. I would definatly not recomend it to anyone!!!!!

I would never recommend implanon to anyone either. I only used it because of the convenience of not having to remember to take a tablet every day (Iused to have a good memory before I became a mum! :D ).

Thank you for all of your opinions. I'll take each day as it comes from now on & if AF hasn't arrived in the next 3wks, I'll be paying my GP a visit.

Cheers

Wow, thats interesting to know, I just go implanon put in last week as i cant fall pregnant for 6 months due to a molar pregnancy so my doc suggested implanon, she said when i got it removed that my period should come in the first month of having it taken out! I should of read this thread sooner, as hearing it from all you makes me regret having it put it.

Hi

I had implanon in for nearly 12months, i got it taken out in april this year as we wanted to try for a 2nd baby. i got my period exactly 4 weeks later, lasting about 1 week and then i got pregnant... i am due in Feb.

My doctor said that it is possibe to get preg as soon as it is removed, so maybe...

Hi girls

i had implanton put in on friday 29th sept my arm was soo sore after it, the main reason i had it done was i would always forget to take the pill, so i discussed it with my gp and he accutally recommend it as i am a mum of two kids 2.5 yrs ans 3mths as well as a full time carer for my hubby, so trying to remember things is so diffucult if its not written down thats it i have forgotten it, has any one had a sever rectation to the implant at all ?? Dose any one know who i can go about finding information on either selling my eggs or donating them ?? if any one could help i would be most helpful.

I was on depo provera without any problems and my doc suggested implanon, after putting it in I had a severe heamhorrage and lost alot of weight (I was underweight to begin with) and they had to take it out.

I had the implanon for 3 years and didn't have much trouble with it. I think i had more irregular periods but apart from that no other symptoms.

melasaurus-I don't know about donating eggs, try calling IVF clinics i guess.

Hi Guys

I had the implanon rod in for 3 years, had it removed (as we decided it was time to try for a bub), got my period 1 week later and fell pregnant 1 cycle after that!

I do remember my doctor saying that you can fall pregnant the day after it is removed so you may in fact be pregnant :)

Everyone has different experiences with different forms of contraception but I found implanon to be great.

Just thought I would add my 2 cents worth!

I had Implanon surgically removed on the 13th of October. The awful, evil little matchstick had embedded itself into the muscle and was causing a lot of problems. After the wait for hospital, it ended up being in 4 months shy of the full 3 years.

I am yet to have any sign of AF, but I am really happy with how I feel now- completely different-in a good way!

No one at the hospital told me how long it would take to concieve after removal but from memory when I read the information booklet said everything should be back to nomal pretty much immediately. I have also heard of a few people falling pg straight away.

I was on Implanon for 3 years - after falling pregnant twice while on the pill. I had no issues....it was bliss as I had no bleeding for the whole 3 years. My husband does think that it affected my sex drive though.

I am now pregnant with #3 after having the implant taken out 4 months ago. I went back to normal after about 2 weeks. I guess how you react depends on the individual person. For me it worked fine - especially as the pill did not.

Hi girls i had the implanon about 3 yrs ago and would not reccomend it. I had it in for approx 6mnths and then got it removed because i was getting so depressed about the weight i had gained on it  . I also have two lovely scars where they tried to remove it. The only up side of it for me was that i had no periods. I now take the pill and i have used depo ingection a few yrs ago and i have no problems with that either though some say they get depressed on it. After depo though it took me 10mnths to concieve DS#1 :)

I hated implanon, i only had my in for 5 weeks and it drove me nuts! I can pretty much constent period the whole time, bad mood swings, loss of sex drive and spots before my eyes, so i could take it any longer, i also got my period the next day, so hopefully im back to normal, and the new year can bring me a little stork!

I loved my Implanon - the freedom not to worry about getting those pesky little pills organised and less chemicals - I got it in about 6weeks after DS was born and did not have af visit until about 3months ago (I had the Implanon removed about 6weeks ago). When Af did come it was very erratic to begin with (don't know if this is normal for people who've had Implanon or to do with bf'ing DS), would be 1week on, 1 week off then 1 week on, 2 weeks off till I'm now about 29/30 days (I was always dead on 28days before DS was conceived). As I said - I'm not sure how much was to do with bf'ing DS as I was still giving one feed in the morning up until about 5weeks ago.

Again, I think it's an individual thing as I've heard some stories from friends who conceived within the first month of removal and others who had AF move in (not just visit), so got it removed pretty quick smart. Seems that some people's bodies react very differently.

Cheers :D

Hi, I just wanted to say that everyone is different... I havent had any problems while on the implanon... 48hrs after taking the implanon out the progesterone (sp?) should be gone... I had spotting for a week when period would have been due and havent had a period for a while which is fine by me... I'm getting mine taken out as I want to start TTC #3 soon have heard all sorts of stories but its like when you get pregnant and all the bad stories come... everyones situations different I'm sorry that it didnt work out for the other girls my only bad point has been lack of libido but I dont neccesarily put that straight down to the implanon I hope yours works how you need it to! I dont think your GP (especially if you've been going to them for a while now) would reccommend it if they didnt think it would work for you! so dont worry too much and if you have any issues then just go straight back and have a chat with them or get it taken out.

I dont think that it should have happended like this... are sure it was put i right?? Not trying to disagree but it sounds like the person who put it in didnt do it properly.
I hope you feel better now!! (or will soon anyway!)

I'd talk to your GP but the injections have been known to take as long as three years to get rid of from your system.... I hope it doesnt take as long in your case!! sending baby dust your way!!
