Thanks everyone I'm loving this place, and it's only 20 min to Margaret River Hospital (thanks SF!) I'm thinking to make things easier we will book in and only go if we feel we need too :smiliedance:

So you are planning on freebirthing at a holiday house? How does that work? How do you know when to book? Isn't one of the points of homebirth/free birth that you do it at home because you feel more comfortable and relaxed at home thus facilitating the birth process?

So you are planning on freebirthing at a holiday house?
How does that work? How do you know when to book? We will book it from 39-41 weeks, we will be in Perth from 36 weeks.
Isn't one of the points of homebirth/free birth that you do it at home because you feel more comfortable and relaxed at home thus facilitating the birth process? For some yes, Unfortunetly because of where we live it is not really an option for us, we would risk losing our home and having hubby go back to FIFO, we also do not have access to medical assistance should we need it regardless of how small that chance is, I feel more comfortable being able to access care. If we birthed here and something went wrong it would take a minimum of 4hrs to access any major hospital. I trust birth, I believe in my body, but I also believe in being able to access assistance when needed, to do that I need to be near said assistance. For us this is the best option, it's like putting on that seatbelt when getting in a car.

I thought there was probably more to it, wow how can you risk losing your house by birthing at home?
It looks gorgeous hope everything falls into place for you.
I think its a cool idea. If I was to have a home birth it wouldn't actually be at home either. I don't like my house its a renovation nightmare. I would love to go on a beautiful holiday and be able to just chill Out with my family after the birth somewhere relaxing

Because we live in a closed town, we have to abide by the town rules, while I have not seen it written in the rules I have been told by a lot of people that the last person who birthed here was nearly told to leave, since they have become very strict on it. Apparently when you attend the medical center your given a pregnancy package that includes this info, as well as all the other hoohar like forms for free care flights to Perth and the like.

I've just spoken to MR hospital and they have told me I just need to transfer my care to one of the local GP's during my last month :smiliedance: So I will probably have an appointment with them during that month to handover all my details should we transfer and we will be set
OMG! That place looks awesome! It looks like such an amazing place to have a baby!!!
I haven't heard from my 'contact' yet either in case you're wondering- will pass on your details as soon as I do.:highfive:

Wow it looks wonderful what a pristine setting to welcome your little one!
I agree it looks like you are being really sensible with your birth - getting what you wanted but having the backup just in case it is needed (hopefully not but better to have and not need IMO)
Dare I ask how the resort felt about your plans? - just cause I am nosey :o

Roopee- thanks
Seacretsquirrel- I really don't think they need to know, I'm not about to tell them were going to have s3x or take a dump in the loo ;) Plus I don't particularly want anyone sharing there personal fears about my choices with me.

Fair enough. From an insurance pov they are probably better off ignorant.

I was thinking if they knew about it and sonething went wrong then the hotel have zero legal responsibility for your choice. But I do wonder if if they know and give *permission* then they may legally have a certain level of responsibility for you.
Or if birthing-related-stuff got on the carpets or something maybe their insurance wouldn't cover it because they gave permission for you to birth there.
Does that make sense? I'm just thinking 'outloud' I don't actually know.
I dunno. I guess I'm agreeing what they don't know won't stress them out
Cos nothing will go wrong and if it does your putting yourself somewhere to handle it.

But I do wonder if if they know and give *permission* then they may legally have a certain level of responsibility for you. I don't see how it's any different to normal insurance, why would they be responsible for me medically unless my injuries are a direct result of their negligence  why would I blame them for my choice
Or if birthing-related-stuff got on the carpets or something maybe their insurance wouldn't cover it because they gave permission for you to birth there. I am planning on using the same set up as we did with DS2, so using floor coverings etc. I'm assuming that if the floor did get soiled we would pay to have it fixed or replaced much like we would if it was soiled with anything else.
Does that make sense? I'm just thinking 'outloud' I don't actually know.

What a beautiful serene setting to welcome your bub into the world!
It sure beats a cold, impersonal, small hospital bed!
All the best with your pregnancy.
