CP = Cervical Position.
Do you check yours? I've always been kind of grossed out by checking it. I'll happily put a tampon in and will obviously allow my husband to do what he has to, but the idea of my own finger checking my cervix is kind of off-putting.
But then I have to think that I'm TTC at the moment and I'm kind of interested in it too. How do you do it? What are you checking for? And how do you tell if your cervix is high or low?

Hey Ally
Heres what i do:
After i wash my hands i sit on the loo, and then i use my middle finger, pushing it up until i can feel a soft squishy bit :o you should be able to feel a little dip and then around it is kinder higher than the middle, and its smooth, i kinda scoop my finger to get some CM too. But this is a little harder if you have nails.
Um i hope this helps, it does take practice to know when its high for you or soft etc, you may not be able to reach it when you are ovulating, i can, but its kinda hard to get to :o

Cheers Doula,
But what does it mean when its high, low, soft, hard etc? I know what CM I should be looking for when I'm O'ing, but what is my CP supposed to be like?

when you are oing, it should be very high up, so you might not reach it, also the little dip in the middle should be very open, like you can press the tip of your finger in a little, kinda. Also it should feel soft like your lips, but when you arent oing it will be lower and it will feel more like the tip of your nose :D
Hey Ally- check out FF (www.fertilityfriend.com)
theres heaps of info on there. but i pretty much do it the same as doula, but i stand up and do it.
Make sure you aren't tensing your stomach muscles at the time (dont know why, but sometimes i do) as it makes your CP feel lower than what it actually is when its just normal.
Its gross and i HATE doing it, but i like knowing what my body is up to.....
But it doesnt always help anyway!
it might take a few cycles before you start noticing a difference, maybe keep a diary or a chart of what you think it feels like

I used to check mine whilst squatting down in the shower, it was very easy to find that way.
I have noticed that now I am in my second trimester it has gone so high that I cannot feel it anymore, I guess it will drop again in the last trimester lol.
I have read you should always check it in the same position, as different positions may make it seem in different position, iykwim.

I read that to Adria, and that you should check round the same time everyday... I know with me, morning its always lower than at night anyway.. untill i started checking same time each day, I found it really hard to see a pattern...

I've never made a habit of checking it - I can't stand the feeling of it being touched, I just hate it!
It's considered a "secondary" fertility sign in any case, meaning that you can't tell if your fertile by CP alone, its just an extra bit of info in addition to CM and temps.
I've charted for years and I just haven't found it necessary, I've always got all the info I needed from temps and CM.

I got curious the other month and every now and then i check it's position. At the moment i think i am O and i can't reach the dam thing
(i need a bigger finger) Sorry TMI
So hopefully that means i am ovulating but the question is, is it a sure sign of O ?????
A while ago there was a thread about it, can't remember how far back though, it even had pictures

ok, so looking at that pic, is it normal that im on CD6, just finished AF and when I check CP there is a hard lump next to the dip? the hard lump is the easiest thing to feel, and i have to kinda feel around to find the dip. the lump is smooth, painless and is about the size of a half a pea. I felt it last night and I've been freaking out ever since...
