At what age can a child be allergy tested? My 16 month old ds has been diagnosed with dairy and soy allergy/intolerance by our paed as he does blood poos whenever he has either.. Since I cut dairy/soy he is doing so much better however he still sometimes does random blood poos and I'd like to have hi. Properly allergy tested? Can someone tell me about allergy testing?

Allergy testing is usually done from 6 months onwards. I have heard of it being done earlier but that can lead to false positives. My DD will be 9 months when we have skin prick testing done later this month.

From what I understand they prick the skin, apply a drop of the allergen and measure the size of the reaction, if there is one, to determine if it's an allergy or just borderline, etc.

Thanks.... My new lil bubba (4weeks) has had specks of blood in 3 of her poos now so I think she might have allergies as well. I'm pretty devistated as it was so hard with ds and I didn't want dd to go through it as well.... And this time I didn't over do it with dairy during pregnancy and have only had extremely minimal dairy/soy since she was born. Looks like it's back on the crappy diet where I even have to cut out even traces of dairy and soy. I'm not even sure if I can do it again... I was so run down and sick and skinny last time... And I've just had back to back pregnancies and I'm tired and worn out from caring for 2 babies.... It's not fair! :crying:

Hi,
This might come a bit late as I just saw your post from 2 months ago! :(
Anyway, for anyone interested out there, children can have their skin allergy test when they are 5.
My first son has always been quite allergic since he was a toddler, and the doctor said we should wait for him to be tested until he turned 5.
We just did the pick test two weeks ago.
Hope that helps.

dd was skin pricked then blood tested at 12 months after a severe reaction at 11 months. so can be done when they are young too ;)

DD got skin pricked at 6 months and showed allergies to cows milk, egg yolk, egg white and almonds.

External factors aren't that accurate till at least 12 months though. I.e grass, dust etc
