My girls are older but we put anything in their stockings. Especially things they would have needed anyway for school etc. So, lunchboxes, drink bottles, socks, undies, clothes, even sunblock. Anything. Basically if they would need it within the next few months anyway then they get it for christmas.
We usually do either those musical toothbrushes or battery ones. (Something a bit differetn to their normal toothbrushes)
So far this year we are doing all sorts of things. Including hair ties & headbands, hairbrushes, lip glosses, sunglasses, booklights & mini lanterns for our holiday, clothes, books, pencils, colouring books/puzzle book, pens and pencil cases. Possibly new towels & beach bags too.

We do undies, craft stuff, tooth brushes, drink bottles and hait clips/headbands too.
I saw a bucket/spade/ball set at Best & Less for $11, they had Dora, Barbie, MLP (not sure on boys, cause I don't need to buy for them!) so my kids will get one of those too.
