I put season-all salt on the layers of potato, then on top I put lots of garlic and diced bacon and pour the cream over the top. Then once the potatoes are cooked, I sprinkle the shredded cheese on top and put back in the oven just long enough for the cheese to melt.
Love the parmesan idea, but DP hates it so I can't use it
I cut the spud into thin slices, it cooks faster that way & my DH is always in such a hurrry to eat it lol:D Then I layer them in the baking dish with cut up bacon & sometimes leek. Next I mix the garlic with the cream & some milk & pour over the potato, cover with some alfoil & into the oven, pull out & add some grated tasty cheese & put back in just long enough for the cheese to melt & go golden :chef: Yummo, makes me want to make it for dinner.
I sometimes add french onion soup mix to the cream & milk instead of garlic, this is also pretty good.
Ciao,
Brooke.

:chef: I do mine with layers of potato and onions then I pour cream mixed with some garlic all over. Then on top I put lots of diced bacon and chesse. Sometimes I use potato, onions, mushrooms or just what vegies needs to be used up in the fridge. We always have steak and salad with are potato bake.
Marinated steak, meatloaf or BBQ ribs are great accompaniment for potato bake :chef: Or at least there are no complaints in my house :D

I just have the thinly sliced potato sprinkled with french onion soup, covered in cream and sprinkled with cheese.
I always forget to add things like the ham/bacon/onion. Doh!

I leave the lid on for an hr...then take it off cook it for maybe another 15mins... I also ment to say i never put the cheese on until after i hav taken the lid off. Otherwise it just cooks to quick & goes hard.

Oh, yeah! Me too ... always leave cheese till last 5-10 minutes. Just enough time for it to melt.

Aw yum, the chicken stock powder/french onion soup powders sound nice! Will have to try them!
I layer 1/2 cm thick potato slices, then diced bacon and diced onion, add another 1-2 layers of each, then pour cream over the top and bake. When its half done, i add grated cheese on top, and put back in til its cooked. We like it when the cheese has browned and gone a bit crunchy. :D
mines pretty basic..
thinly slice the spuds.. layer them in the dish with thickened cream, bacon, and onion, And shredded cheese on top.

I cheat - I use a packet mix.. usually the cheese and garlic one and follow the directions. I like my potato bakes to be really rich otherwise I'd just use stock and cream.
I mix the veges up too though and add some pumpkin and sweet potato as well.

Cook covered in foil until tender, take out of oven, sprinkle cheese and bacon on top, then pout back into oven until golden brown..... YUMMY
Also cook my vegie bakes the same way, only add broccolli and cauliflower on top then cheese, as well as well as thinly sloced Sweet potato, potato and carrot...

I make it with sliced potatoes. I microwave them to soften them up.. (yes, i'm a cheat! :D Cooks faster that way.)
Then i layer with potato, onions, bits of chicken and spread a few frozen vegetables over it. I use roast chicken seasoning, then put cream and grated tasty cheese over it.. and i repeat it with another layer of the same, ending in the cream and grated tasty cheese.
Foil and then oven.:chef:
Quick and easy.

I layer the potatoes and then onion, sprinkle on some bacon and pour over cream with a little garlic powder added and zap in the microwave until the potatoes are soft and then sprinkle with grated cheese and pop it in the oven til the cheese is melted and golden. If i'm feeling lazy i make up the packet mix and pour ir over my onions and potatoes and do the same lol. Df doesn't like the potatoes sliced so usually cut them in chunks unless he isn't home for dinner.

For a lower in fat version, I use carnation light & creamy evaporated milk instead of cream, tastes pretty much the same without the guilt! It's also good in pasta instead of cream.

I cooked washed potatoes in a saucepan on a stove, then i cut them in half and put them in a dish, i sprinkle over the top bacon and shallots followed by cream and finally cheese and then put it in the oven. I use weight watchers cheese cause it is less fatty and the appearance is a lot better than normal cheese.

I do potato and sweet potato, then cover with cream and garlic paste - mmmmmm
Another favourite here lately is vege bake, same deal any vege you like in it and cream & the garlic - my DS eats it but won't eat veges on his plate :D

The ingredients I use are for potato bake are:
Cream of chicken or French onion soup mix mixed in with cream
Lightly fried onion, garlic and bacon
Par boiled potatoes either chunky style or sliced whole
Grated cheese
Sprinkle paprika on top of cheese
Put potatoes into oven dish, sprinkle with fried onion, garlic and bacon, pour over cream and soup mixture, top off with grated cheese and paprika. Cook until cheese is golden.

I do a layer of sliced potato then add diced bacon and sliced onion and continue until the baking dish is nearly full.
Then I sprinkle french onion soup mix over it. Then I pour thickened cream all over it and finish it off with grated tasty cheese.
I cook it at 180 degrees for about an hour.
