I recently noticed my son has a dark brown/black small freckle (mole?) on his thigh.

He's 2, with pale skin.

When did other people's kids get freckles/moles?

It depends i think my DD who has really olive skin got her first around 2 and a half to 3 and it's on her scalp only see it when i part her hair down the middle, it's her only one too. DS has had one since about 1 and it's on his groin area at first I thought it was a speck of poo that wouldn't come off. It is his only one but he has fair skin.

:(
My kids have pale, pale, pale skin (think sheet of A4 paper, then go a couple of shades lighter), DS is 2 1/2 and has a spattering of light freckles across his nose :( They're adorable, but I feel like such a bad Mum for them being there, he wears a hat and sunscreen, plays outside only before 10, after 3 or in the shade... but then, I'm covered in freckles :(

DD is only 10 months, and she has 3, on the top bit of her forehead, from where her hat would normally cover. She's been burnt twice in her little life :( Same story, but she yanks her hats off, sit her in the shade and all... STILL she managed to get burnt :(
I keep telling myself that hers will be covered by hair when its grows through a little more so further damage there will be minimised, but still :(

I had heaps as a kid and they started showing in photos from about 18 months. DS has an all of three (I'm hoping its a sign he won't be inflicted with them lol)

peanutbutter&jelly I was just thinking the exact same thing. Although my boy has very olive skin and doesn't seem too affected by the sun, we went out one day interstate, not realising the sun is different over there. I thought it was an incredibly mild day (it was actually cold) so I wasn't too fussed on the sunscreen/hat. He came home with a pink nose :( and now has a few freckles on his nose only.. I can't help but think it's my fault for not having a hat on him that day. I fell awful, awful, awful that he got burnt.

My DS2 is 3 and a bit and has had an explosion of freckles across his face over the last 6 months or so. They're very cute!

To the people feeling guilty, it sounds like they're not necessarily caused by sun exposure anyway.

My son's definitely isn't as he rarely sees any sun on his thigh.

My son has some delayed speech issues, but he quickly picked up the word "mole" and now points at my skin at says "mole". It just hit me that could be awkward at daycare or something.:D

My DD was oly 4 months old when she got one on her upper back...and think she'd very very rarely seen any sort of sunlight (inder clothes) being a winter baby...didn't stop the mummy guilt happening though! She's got a couple now (4 or 5) as has my 2yo DS (all down the one side of his body...interesting)

DS got his first freckle when he was a couple of months old. It is in his groin area, so definitely not caused by sun exposure! He now has 3 more on one arm, and one on the other. And a light freckle between his eyebrows, right in the centre! I do worry about him developing moles, as his father has LOTS of them. I'm always very careful making sure he's wearing sunscreen and hats.

DD is 5 with really pale skin... she has a smattering of light freckles on her upper cheeks, and then the odd random freckle on her body.

I dunno if she'll have any moles. I don't have any, but her father had a few...

"Mole" was one of my DS's first words! I guess because he noticed the ones on my arm and would always point at them (or try to scratch them off - ouch!) so I gave him the word for them. Luckily no really embarrassing incidents resulted from him using the word although it gave the family lots of amusement.

To answer the OP, DS's first freckles appeared around 18months I think - he has 2 or 3 on his legs. Based on both my own and DH's skin I assume he's going to get alot more freckles and moles as he gets older (even if we minimise sun exposure).

My DS has olivey skin and was born with one little freckle on his butt cheek, I love it :)

Neither DP or I have freckles so don't think our children will either.
