Hi

I was thinking of offering babysitting in my home.

has anyone done this?

Where did you advertise?

How much did you charge?

Gumtree.com.au

Findababysitter.com.au

Have been the best two sites I've found.

If your interested in paying a fee I think nannyshareconnections.com.au is supposed to be alright.

I've done it, though found word of mouth - while slow - is most effective.

I used to charge $12 an hour, but recently I've been not specifically saying care is from my home, and found parents will occasionally offer to drop off, or I'll go and pick up, generally I think parents prefer you not in their home - or at least this has been my experience, so I charge $20 an hour, their house or mine.

Though that said, I really spend most of the time at the park, plaugroup, I just got a pass for the aquarium, wildlife world and ocean world in Sydney, and go on other outings, so it's not REALLY from my home, so much as *based* from home.

I have 4 years childcare experience, no completed qualifications but I did do 1 year of a teaching degree, I have childrens first aid cert, working with children police backgroup check, I'm registered childcare provider with the family assistance office (though so far nobody has ever used this to claim childcare benifit)

I have found having those things helps

Hi sleepless beauty what do you have to do to register with the family assistance office so parents can claim the child care benefit? Do you need to pay tax as well? And insistence and have an abn?

I don't have an Abn and didn't earn enough to have to pay tax. If I did dp's accountant would be able to lodge something for me to be able to pay tax. In a way I hope I don't ever earn enough to have to pay tax to avoid the whole drama!

I just kept a record on an excel spread sheet.

To register with family assistance office I'm not 100% sure I can't remember, but somewhere on their site is a form to fill out. You also get a booklet to give receipts with so if you think you will earn over $12,000 it's easy way to keep a record of what you earn.
