View Full Version : Baby's wind disturbing her sleep!
My baby is 10 weeks old and since about 2 weeks old has been waking up after 20-30 minutes with terrible wind. She squirms and kicks trying to get it out and recently it has been happening more at night. She is a breastfed baby and I have cut down on windy foods and dairy products, except a bit of butter here and there.
Any suggestions please! I'm finding the wind so disruptive to my dd.
Thanks!

Can try a wind mixture like infants friend, infacol or gripe water.
Infacol worked wonders here.

We had the same problem ...
We tried everything but nothing seemed to work ...
Ds is 9 months and only just now farting in his sleep without it bugging him ...
Have you tried tummy massage? Any of the wind mixtures?
Tummy time.
Rub baby's stomach in a clockwise direction.
OI had exactly the same problem, tried identifying foo in my diet, but I think some babies just get wind unfortuantely.
I took my son to a chiropractor and he has been the happiest baby in Australia since  I highly recommend it. Best thing is, my chiro doesn't charge for babies under 12 months :yelclap:

My DS suffered really badly from wind/colic since he was born. i breastfed for the first 3 months and watched what i ate but it made no difference. Switched to bottle feeding after 3 months, still had lots of wind. Tried an assortment of wind drops and other things nothing helped.
At about 4 1/2 months i took him to see a natropath. She suggested giving him probiotics and i swear that they worked. He started to improve after about a week being on it. He is now 6 1/2 months old and sleeping through the night, no pain waking him up anymore. Im not sure how old they should be to have probiotics or if it would help your little one but it really helped us so it might be worth just speaking to a natropath or doctor about it. Hope you can find something that will help, i know how hard it is to watch your baby in pain, not to mention the lack of sleep that goes with it. Good luck! :)
Thanks everyone, I have tried infacol which did nothing. Gripe water seems to only calm her down but not stop the farts. I've tried massages and all that.
Yesterday we took her to a chiropractor, no change yet, he said it might take a few seasons. lozzaaa who was your chiropractor if you are in sydney?
I'll also look into the probiotics. Cheers.

I am having exactly the same prob with my bub. He is 14 weeks old and has had very bad wind pain since about 3 weeks and is spewy as well.
Reading here, it seems I may just have to wait it out. I will try bowen therapy though. It works well for me so fingers crossed it is good for Seth too.

Hi,
My bubs had the same thing...so I have started taking him to the chiro, its been a week now and I dont know if it has helped to be honest but will keep going for a while. The chiro also gave me the probiotics for him too, so I would definitely do that. I too tried the infacol and thought it wasnt working, but I use that with every single feed now. Things seem to be a bit better now. He still has alot of wind that he needs to push out but not as much as before where it constantly wakes him up. It was suggested by one of the BH mums to give him cooled boiled water in the afternoon and give him a good burp. The gas builds during the day which makes t worse at night and the water always brings up a good burp, so hopefully gets rid of alot of wind. She said to use 50ml of water but I can usually only get about half of that into my little man. He drinks it but pulls a face like "What the hell is this you are giving me??!!"
Good luck, I know how horrible it is!

DS2 had bad wind at about 6.5 weeks, we gave him some infants friend and it worked for him and he then started sleeping 12 hours at night!

I had exactly the same problem with DS who is fully BF from pretty much day one. DH used to bend DS's knees up to his chest and it was like a musical chorus of farts. Poor guy was in a lot of pain.
It can be so tiring and I know I felt quite useless not being able to do anything to help. I tried warm baths, tummy massage (which did help a bit I think)watched my diet and Infacol. He would still get in a lot of discomfort and would scream. When he was about 12wks I heard about Chamomile tea. German chamomile particularly Has amazing anti inflammatory and anti spasmodic properties apparently. I started giving him a couple of mls of cooled tea each night after last feed and then would make sure I got every last burp out before putting to bed. It decreased the gasiness heaps! He started to settle better and sleep longer. He liked the taste too which helped. There is a Colic relief remedy made by Brauers that also has chamomile in it.
Also have just started taking him to an Osteopath who said he had quite a sore diaphragm (was giving him reflux). The change after his first visit was amazing - no more spews and sleeping much better.
He is 6 months old now and still can be a champion burper and farter but is much happier and so am I.
Good Luck :fingerscrossed:

This sounds like 'Silent reflux' to me... I had exactly what you were talking about will my little girl.. She would be in pain especially at night and wouldn't sleep. She would cry, push her bottom out, straighten legs and make it impossible for us to rub back and try and burp her. I thought it was wind and tried Infacol, gripe water and found Infants Friend seemed to ease her a little. BUT I was treating the wrong problem.... She had all the symptoms of 'Silent Reflux'. Crying when feeding, not sleeping, hiccups, etc... The doc then put her on MYLANTA which we give 3 times a day 1/2 before a feed and the problem was solved. A completely different baby. If we miss a day then she suffers and so do we.
Hope this helps...
