View Full Version : Can you cut the stem off completely from your cup?
I just got a small size Lunette which fits much, MUCH better than my old Diva cup (Diva was far too big for me) but the stem, which I have already trimmed down, is still irritating me. I know it's inserted correctly as I've been using a cup for almost 2 years... it's just the stem irritates me.
Can I cut it off completely? Or will that leave a hole?
i'm pretty sure you could - but if i were you i'd try turning it inside out and see if that works better first? just so that you don't accidentally ruin it? :p

I've snipped mine to the last ridge...I think that is as far as they recommend trrimming it.
I don't know if there is any cups minus a tab? I don't 'use' mine at all.
All you can do is try I suppose... if you leave a hole - you might have to add another one to your xmas wishlist :p

Oh yeah! I forgot you told me that - I'll do that when I get home.
Lunette is awesome ;) I got the smaller size in the end... the one for those who haven't had a vaginal birth  weird!

That's what I did - trimmed it to the last ridge. It's so irritating!
LOL I guess I could ask DP for one for xmas if I make a hole in it
*pouts like a 2 year old* i can't believe you forget the things i tell you :laughing:
anyway - i'm starting to think that the size differences aren't because women who have given birth are bigger down there (especially considering the amount of people i've heard of who were a lot tighter there post babies).
i think its more that women who have had babies have bigger a slightly bigger uterus than pre-baby women. and thus, there could be more bleeding? and so they give her a bigger cup?

Hmmm that's a good theory. Although it's hard to know - when I breastfed DS I mostly had "spotting" and very light bleeding...
I don't understand the bigger cup.
I'm still scared thinking back to the size 2 Diva cup and yet all the websites insist you HAVE to have that one if you've had a vaginal birth! Doesn't even mention amount of bleeding.
*shudders in fear*

Hi Gals - hope you don't mind me jumping in here. I am using my lunette cup for the first time today and I can still 'feel' it. I have trimmed the tab back one ridge, but can still feel it.
Should I trim it some more?
Also I noticed that you mentioned turning it inside out? Does it still hold in place etc properly if inserted that way? I'm a bit scared that if I turn it inside out, there will be nothing for me to grip to pull it back out.

Can you try and hold onto it a bit longer while you insert it, so it goes a bit further in? I have this issue sometimes, and i find that either popping the seal and just pushing it a bit further in can help (although that sometimes makes me feel more bloated), or just leaving it and walking around, doing some squats etc, can help pull it a bit further in, making it stop being uncomfortable.
I'm not sure why

I haven't tried it inside out during my period, and i have a feeling that it doesn't have as good a seal, so there's a bit more leakage around the sides? but the stem doesn't annoy me at all then.
so i'd try - just wear a pad for a little bit, and compare the amount of potential spotting?
and hopefully as you get used to it, it stops being uncomfy.
I just find that my cervix is quite low during my period and that's why my cup doesn't sit as high as it should without that extra prompting :laughing:
Goodluck :fingerscrossed:
Someone once posted about contracting your pelvic floor muscles a few times when you insert it sometimes helps to "suck" it up a little more and it stays put better. I found that helps. I also found it took a few cycles to get the positioning right. I realised that i wasn't pointing it back enough and once i started doing that i couldn't feel it anymore.

Thanks for the help girls. I've tried pushing it further in with no luck so I've cut another ridge off the stem. Hopefully this will work.
I tried wearing it for awhile to see if moving around would make the position more comfortable but that didn't work either.
