I have a unique nappies night nappy, and it's pretty good, pretty darn good if I can use that language :p

Just wait until you discover woollies Loz, nappies were my first addiction and now I have a severe woollies problem. They just so COOT :o and wool really is the best type of cover, it's long lasting, it's natural, it doesn't need daily washing, it is water proof, it is breathable, it's leak proof, they're easy to make (if you can knit) or easy to get someone else to make for you, plus there's always bumjumpers if you can't knit but you can sew, I just love woollies, I even just bought some lanolin spray, 2 actually, one is scented Sandalwood, and the other is Biscotti and Nuts mmmmmmm.....

So i guess you love woolies then the_queen ? ;) I wanted a stars and moons one but had to get the bumble bee one instead.. can't have everything. :devil6:

Okay a quick question.. with the nappy i just bought from uniquenappies, will i need to lanolise it ? I don't exactly understand what lanolising is and does. Anyone want to explain ?? :D Cheers!

You need to lanolinise soakers/longies that are 100% wool, the lanolin will make them water proof.

Squeeze a pea-sized dollop of Lansinoh into a little bit of boiling hot water, swirl it around so it dissolves, then top up the bucket with cool water (the temperature of the water should be kinda lukewarm) (you need the first little bit to be boiling to dissolve the lanolin). Then put the woollies in there (of course, washed first with wool wash) and soak for 1 hour minimum, overnight is what I do. Then take them out, squeeze them very gently just to get the water out, roll them in a towel (to get some more of the moisture off) then dry flat in the shade. I put mine on the clothes airer, either in the laundry, or under the verandah. When they're dry, they are now lanolinised!! Oh, best to do them inside out, so the lanolin gets on the bits you want to be waterproof

The other option is to buy this lanolin spray like I did. You wash them in wool wash, dry them, then just spray all over the item. And they have wonderful gorgeous scented sprays. Bit more expensive, but considering that this process only needs to be done once a month (or less), it'll last. Of course, I'm washing and lanolinising at least once a week, thank you very much sloppy breastfed poo's!!!!!

And yes, I love woollies

The Unique nappy you got Loz, it's fleece, yeah? That won't need lanolinising, it'll be water-repellant all on it's own. But you need to watch that it doesn't get a build-up of washing powder/liquid. Because that will affect it, I couldn't work out what was wrong with my fleecies, they were all leaking, but then I learned that they were clogged up with washing powder residue. So if that happens you need to do a strip wash, which is basically a wash with very hot water and a drop of dishwashing detergent, and then a few rinse cycles until no bubbles are appearing.

Thank-you the_queen, you make thing's sound so easy

Ahhh, if i dilute the powder in a jar first will that help prevent the build up ? Sounds logical.

I think (here's me getting all analytical :p) that it's got something to do with the fact that as mothers, we don't like to do things for ourselves very much; or at least, we don't like to be seen doing things for ourselves. Nappy obsession is a way of combining a love of retail, fashion, and our kids. We can ooh and aah over pretty things, we can spend money, and we can justify it all by saying it's for our babies.

And Loz, yeah that sounds like a good idea, also just use a half (or even a quarter) of what you'd usually use to wash clothes with.

the_queen - That can't be a good thing, i usually put three scoops in a full load. My theory is the more you use the cleaner it becomes  okay well of course it isn't true but i can't help myself. Looks like i'll have to cut down on my cleaning products to buy more nappies :devil6:

Sop - Let me know if you do end up wanting to sell some of your stash

Jakes mum - I'm still pondering.. i have no idea how to tell my own yet !!

I too have been thinking of selling some of my stash to get more nappies .... We all know that it will never ever happen only over my dead body :p

I even came up with the wonderful idea of making my own covers etc this means i have extra money of my own to buy nappies ... Again we all know i could never ever sell the d@rned things for heavens sake i chose the cutest fleece ever sif let someone else have the chance to strut showing those babies off !!!

All i can say is welcome to the obsession & heaven help you from the wrath of your hubby
I even tried the sneak into bed late at nite hoping to get him while he was sleepy to agree to 6 more nappies .... I didnt get him to agree in the end but i still ordered the nappies ... :o
I mean cmon how in the world can one resist the prints from Greens ?!?!?! Plus im a tester for them so i especially feel the need to represent them in any way possible  .... Thats my excuse & im sticking to it

You girls crack me up! I was just reading the other Green Kids thread and I can't believe how obessed you all are LOL

Here I was in my smug-ness thinking if I decked out DS with a decent nappy stash, I won't need to buy any for any subsequent children and will save heaps! Ha ha ha ha! #2 isn't due until Jan but I've already spent sooooo much on her nappies because I reasoned that I was 'allowed' to indulge in a few girly prints. This is getting way out of control :o

I am even thinking of selling some of the stash

That's so true! I've been trying to bring myself to cull some of our nappy stash but just can't do it incase this suits #2.
