I am going to do other peoples ironing at my home next year while I study just for some extra income....but I am just wondering do you (or someone else you know) get their ironing done by someone??? If so do you mind me asking how much you (or they) pay? I'm not too sure how much to charge....

Most ironing gets charged at $15 an hour.. you could safely charge that seeing as you are doing it in your own home - using your electricity and petrol (if you are picking up and dropping off)
I'm not sure how you would go at charging anymore than that - because housekeeping is only between $15 and $20 an hour.. and thats more work than Ironing.
In Tassie its on a per basket case....So $15 a basket seems to be the norm

That's cheap for a basket full - I can shove a whole lot of clothes into my washing basket

I used to do ironing for a couple of friends and charged $12.50/ hr. by the basket can make for a lot of work, as you said. A lot of ironing can be squashed in and for $15 you may still be ironing after 1 1/2 hrs. Good luck. It used to make me a bit of extra cash for going to the movies and cafe with a friend each month.

If anyone wants to practise with my ironing, I have 8 baskets waiting  bulk discount?
Hi Cheekychops, great idea! I would pay $20/$25 per basket for a good job. I hope it works out well for you.
PS. I think you should call yourself an ironing manager so you can charge more.
I used to have mine done when I was working and I was paying $20 per basket, that was 5 years ago.

I use to get my ironing done about 3 years back until the lady went out abd got a job
It was a bargain at $15 a basket and I would drop it off and pick it up.
It was of course way too cheap as I use to throw in my queen size bed sheets in (fitted as well). If I had piled it up she would charge a few dollars more, but no more than $2 or $5.
I tried a professional mob that comes and picks it up and drops off but it cost nearly $50 for the same amount  Way too much.
So I think about $20-25 a basket as long it wasn't longer than 2 hours work.
Good luck

I was thinking about $12 if they dropped off and picked up themselves or a drop off delivery fee if I did.....
Do you think I'm kidding myself?

Yeah I do what I can, and charge $12.50/hr - they provide starch n hangers,
Plus if they live within 10kms, i charge $5 pick up/drop off, and $10 up to 30 kms
Mind you, I hate doin my own ironing... DP goes off his chops about it, little does he realise if he actually took the washing off the line and folded it then, there wouldnt be hardly any, also if he realised (and he's been reminded n nagged n told off hundreds of times) if he hung things properly they also wouldnt require ironing, or much ironing at all....
You gotta love this tho... "When are you going to do this ironing of ours?"
... I walk into spare bedroom and see dbl bed covered in clean washing... and pick up a couple of things in the pile....
"Hmm, lets see (start throwing clothes in 2 directions...) Ironing, not ironing..."
When i'd finished i turned around and told him.. "Ironing eh? How bout u try some folding first" ---> 1/2 basket ironin ---> 4 folding hehe
I hardly go in spare room lol.. go in there to discuss the change of spare room to office as i need one as i started undercoverwear today...
And heres all the folding all over the bed still....
And here i had been thinkin there was an undies thief on the loose lol
then i told him, ok u fold urs i'll fold mine....
then we had a clothes throwin match..(more like sock winding time -- foot socks to tummy aint good)
Men.... Cant live with them, cant live without them here

i used to work for an ironing service were the boss would pick up of the customer drop of for me to iron then pick up either thatsame night or next day and deliver to customer, and they used to charge per garment eg: t-shirt $75c, pants $1.00, dresses $1.25, sheets $1.50, so depending on what they wanted ironing it would take me about and hour and half and would make about $15 - 20 per basket but i was doing about 5 - 6 baskets per day so it was worth it.. good luck

Hi, I'm a married stay-at-home mum with 3 young kids - want to earn a bit of cash - thinking of doing an ironing service from home. How do I go about getting potential customers? How much should I charge (by the hour or by the basket)? Can someone just give me some pointers to get me started? Also, is it worth it? Should I get people to pick up their ironing when I'm finished so that clothes on coathangers don't get creased in my car? Would greatly appreciate your feedback. Cheers Lou

Hi, I was an ironing lady for 6 months before falling pregnant with my second child and then was just too sick to keep going.
I charged $18.00 an hour and most people were very happy with that. I started off doing it for less ($15.00) but didn't feel it was worth while. When I told my existing clients they didn't care. For instance, I could probably do about 10-13 business shirts in that time. Depending on the quality of the shirts.
I have since popped into a laundry mat and considering the rates they charge, $18.00 for an hour is pretty good.
Most people dropped off their clothes, but some were happy to pay $2.00 pick up and drop off. But it was never more than maybe 2-3km max that I drove.
I advertised in the local paper and ended up with about 3-4 regulars. Probably would have had more if I kept on with it. I also put up some flyers in a few shop windows.
I used to do the ironing at night after DD went to bed.
I would also charge for hangers if they didn't supply enough of them..but not overcharge too much - maybe 20cents are hanger on top of what I paid.
Hope it works out for you.
