MAN!
Found a name we REALLY like for a girl (don't know what sex it will be) and it's Beatrix - the only problem is that the last name would start with a B as well.
I'm not entirely happy with that.
what do people think about alliteration in first and last names? is it always a problem or is it completely fine- i mean brigitte bardot did ok, didnt she?
I guess the obvious answer is that it is on a case by case basis as to whether it would work.
So It would be Beatrix Br*** (last name 2 syllables). opinions?

I had this problem with DD.
I have :bee: her name for such a long time and then DH took my surname meaning if I used the name, she would be AA.
In the end, that name still won. We just kept coming back to it and every other name just didn't seem right.
Now we are just used to it and it is HER :)
People forget about it or don't even notice ..
Good luck
BTW I :bee: the name Beatrix
my first and last name are both 2 syllables starting with the same letter and i dont personally like it. i do really like my first name though so its not that, i just think it sounds a bit funny together. i wouldnt do it with my kids but i think a lot of people will think its fine.

I think it can work with some names and not others. My nephew is Lachlan L e d g e r. Too many L's so to me it doesn't work well. DS went to school with a boy who's initials are HH. 3 syllable first name and 1 for the last name. To me his name works well.

I had an issue with this when I was pregnant with my son!
Our last name starts with H and I LOVED many boy names starting with H!
I think it depends on the name really. Some names sound OK, others sound a bit silly.
But then I am weird :p
I have an issue with my kids names starting with the same letter. That was a big no-no for me!
hmm see i THINK other people would say mine sounds ok (op happy to pm it to u if ya want) but i just dislike the double initial thing.
my dhs surname starts with L (diff to mine) and honestly i cant think of any L names that sound ok with it:laughing:
I have issues with the alliteration thing too :)
But I have found that people seem to equally love the sound, hate the sound or not care. Even in our family it's a mixed bag of opinions. It's one reason I haven't changed to my married name and a lot of people find it very strange - others just hear it and go 'ohhhhh yeah ok' to my reasoning.
It's probably no different to people who love/hate/don't care either way with the name itself ;)
i don't like alliterations either. just sound a bit cartoony or something, it's hard!!
But, I'm sure you would get used to it. A friend's daughter is a very very matchy alliteration (same number of syllables and end in the same letter) and i actually love it!

We avoided first names that started with B for that very reason. I don't mind it for other people, it just doesn't sit right in my mind IYKWIM. I also avoided one syllable names due to the fact that my surname is only one syllable and combined with a one syllable first name it just didn't flow right!
I say if you love the name though....use it! For me, I didn't love the "B" names that much!

thanks for the range of opinions. I am still stuck and ALSO really like the name Bianca. I have plenty of other names on the list but its the getting consensus with DF that means that most of them are ruled out. I also really want to LOVE a name and not settle.

I love alliteration in names! I also love it when the initials of a name make a word tho... :) I think alliteration sounds very strong and melodic, given the right names.... But when expressing this opinion once IRL I was told the name I used as an example sounded like a stripper name :(

I love it in most cases. Think it can be excellent.
And Beatrix is a GORGEOUS name!

Miss7 is SS which her grandmother warned against because the surname is german, but I thought it wouldn't really be a problem for a girl. I've never even considered the same letter initials a problem and it has never come up.
I have the same trouble this time around too. My surname starts with a B and the name I like for a boy also starts with a B.
I'm still undecided as the two names together I can truly imagine a poor frustrated, over-worked teacher yelling out in class in a few years time :o

And don't forget back in the day it was considered very glamorous ... Marilyn Monroe, Robert Redford etc.

I was JJ before I got married both names had 2 syllables and I loved it - I always got the nick name JJ (actually mum still calls me this despite my initials now being JC lol)
So I think it's a great idea - and I don't think too many people think of it these days and as BableFish said it used to be something very glamorous - as long as the two names go together I think it's quite nice!
and don't forget vicki vale and lois lane
and the most glamourous of all Marilyn Monroe
and
Doris Day
Farrah Fawcett
Prescilla Presley
oh I could go on :ecomcity:

My first name and surname both contain double L's and my middle name starts with an L. I regularly get comments about how nicely it rolls off the tongue :)
My husband has DD and It looks good on number plates. Some people call him 'double d
Both have two syllabals

I'm not being funny - I just honestly don't get the resistance to alliterative initials? If anything I think it sounds awesome. Like a superhero name or something.

My first and last name growing up, both started with M. I liked it. It gave my name bounce :smiliedance:
I honestly don't think anyone will notice or care. And at least writing down initials would be easy. :)
It doesn't bother me.
As long as the first and last names don't sound similar or a bit strange together, then I don't think it matters :)
DH's last name begins with J and we considered names beginning with J without a second thought.

It's up to you. I know a lot of people who have that, and I noticed in DD's class there are a lot of kids with that too. I personally tried to steer clear of it though, as I find some of the names seem a bit sing-songy but I guess it depends...

I like first and last sounding the same. Not sure you can really mess with that name to much. That name reminds me of Peter Rabbit books. :)

i think it depends on the names- some sound silly whereas others don't.
my husband has a H H name and i've never given it a second thought!
just so long as it's not one of those same-name ones e.g stephen stephenson etc- why do people do that to their kids???
p.s i love beatrix- i was thinking about it for this baby, i love the name trixie, but i don't think DH's a big fan
Alliteration is fine and even kind of cute!
Assonance however is not!
I have always loved a particular boys name...lets say its "Fred"
Unfortunately DH's name rhymes...so "Fred Ted" is definately out!
