View Full Version : please dont make me think I am the only one!!
hey all
JAck has been quite ill lately ,.. is ona few medications - and it is obviously not helping that he is geting four teeth at the one time .. sheesh
ANYWAY .. he has just discovered (to my horror) that he can GRIND his two front teeth (the newest front top and the older bottom ones) - I have no idea why he is doing this .. but it makes me shudder .. and other than shoving the dummy in his mouth permenantly (which I hate to do) - what else can I do!!!
redirection works for all of two seconds..
I am hoping that when the gunk clears from his nose etc .. he will stop .. but it is like finger nails on a chalkboard!! ewwwww!!
has anyone else had their munchkin do this/??

I have a three year old who does this all the time, it drives me nuts! All I can suggest is try diverting their attention, like give a toy or something to make them stop, it works for us.......sometimes!

our DS#1 did this a lot. from the time he was a baby right up until he lost his front teeth at 7. Apart from the annoying aspect, they don't really do any damage to their teeth. Our dentist said it was fairly common and being baby teeth there isn't a lot of permanent damage. :)

My DD did exactly this when her top teeth came in, but stopped on her own in a few weeks. I put it down to the novelty of having something new in her mouth and her exploring the sensations and feel of them.
I hope it passes soon.

We have that problem too !!!
The worst thing being that his favourite thing to do is climb up next to me on the lounge give me a hug & start in my ear !!!!
Makes me freak .... Think thats why he does it lol
He has settled down of late because his molars are coming through but every now & then he likes to remind me !
Hope Jack feels better soon :hugs:
DS did this also, when his 4 top teeth cut through - It was disgusting, thankfully he has gotten over this now!!
Definitely NOT alone veve.
DS (9 months old) has been doing this for about 3 weeks, and he now has 6 teeth, and no sign of stopping it at the moment.
I sometimes have to physically stick my fingers in his mouth to stop him, cos I can't stand it anymore... and he had never taken the dummy. So nothing to shove in his mouth... except the breast. Not about to do that when when he is grinding away like that.
:fingerscrossed: They stop doing that before we permanently look like plucked chickens with the goosbumps. :o
Definitely not Veve!
Its a great novelty...but it should pass quickly. The weirder the face I made when I heard Andrew doing it, the more he did it. Ignore it and it will go away...
I found food distraction to work well! Got to love sultanas...the worlds greatest distraction! :D

You're definitely not alone  . DD2 has just started it in the last few weeks, and she has 8 teeth. I was always a teeth grinder (and still am sometimes), and it noise annoys the cr*p outta me! I guess now i know how everyone felt when i did it! :D
:fingerscrossed: it passes soon....
