Mashed Potato?

I know this is silly and embarrassing :o but how do you make the real mashed potato?
I made it for some kids the other night trying to be creative and it went down a treat with the quote "It tastes JUST like mummies but a little bit wetter" :o Its not that it was soggy just not as smooth as it should be. I just boiled some potatos in water, then poured out the water mashed the potatos added some milk and butter and then put over the heat again. Anyone know a real way to do it?

Thats how I normally do mine.

Maybe you added too much milk? You only need a tiny bit really!

I normally don't add salt when I cook, but I also find adding a bit to the boiling potatoes gives it a better taste too. And yeah, you don't need too much milk. My DP always winges I put too much in ... :rolleyes:

A bit of sour cream instead of milk is also lovely...and even better with chives! Mmmm :)

I agree sounds like too much milk. I'd say just add it very gradually until it is right. I use a blender instead of mash mine and they come out really fluffy and yum. Also i dont return it to the heat after I have mashed it. :thumbsup:

I do something similiar to karizma but I use the electric mixer. I add pepper, salt, chives, some real butter, milk and then beat it up and it is lovely.

That's the way I do it too. Just a splash of milk and a knob of butter, salt and pepper. Sometimes I add grated cheese to it as well - yummmmm.

I steam the potato, then mash then add some milk, butter, sal, pepper and then use the hand blender yummmeeeee :D

I usually just boil the potato, drain, mash with a little milk HEAPS of butter (so much that my mashed potato is yellow!) and salt and pepper then whisk with a fork. Yum Yum!

I love mash potato... I just boil the potatoes (usually with some vegeta in the water) and add Butter and milk... I'll have to give the other variations a go, they sound good...

I do it teh same as everyone else, but I have been told taht if you use hot milk you get a better, fluffier result. I always forget to do it though! A bit decadent, but I usually use cream instead of milk........yummmm!

I have been known to throw a couple of hard boiled eggs into the mash too - I think its yummy and it is the only way I can get DD1 to eat egg!!
