Hi everyone,

I just wanted to see if anyone could give me some advice. My son has recently turned one and I have been trying to slowly ween him off the baby formula (Nan Gold 2) onto full cream milk. Did that for about 2 weeks and found that his stomach and other things did not seem to agree with it at all. I have heard that this can be the case alot of times. Does anyone know of a good milk replacement for Toddlers that will still be quite filling as he still loves his bottles.

I am finding the whole transition with feed/drink from baby to toddler a little confusing so if anyone can shed some light that would be great. My mum has had too many decades past since doing this herself so that source of info is a little out of date!!

Thanks for listening.:hugs:

Does he have a problem with lactose? Maybe you could try a soy milk & see if that is better for him?
I have also just recently made the transition from Nan HA to cows milk with my DD. Fortunately we didnt have any problems. Ava will eat/drink anything!!

I have heard that toddler formula is good to give bubs that wont take to cows milk. My only prob with it is the cost. I was thrilled to not have to spend $20 a week on formula any more!

Hi hun

maybe try "lactose free milk" you can buy that from Coles in the "long life" section. If he is ok with this, maybe then try reintroducing full cream milk, say about 20 mils of full cream and the rest lactose free. If he is handling it well keep increasing the full cream until he is fully weened onto it.

You can also try "goats milk" it is much much easier to digest than full cream cow's milk and high in calcium (so is the lactose free milk)......and maybe do the same as above. You can find it in the chilled milk section (IYKWIM) of Woolies.

Personally, I started chloe on goats milk first, then slowly put her on Full cream cow's milk and it didn't upset her digestive system in any way.

Good luck and mason is succhhhhhh a cutey!:D

Linda.

I never really thought of goats milk before. I will definately have to try either that or the lactose free milk before trying full cream again. I can understand exactly what Lindy means with the cost of formula so this might be a better way.

Thanks for all of your advice and it was really nice to meet you Linda. Your little girl is absolutely gorgeous! Good luck with your house and Sydney:)

Hi Kate and everyone else,

I don't want to step on toes but personally I think transitioning from formula to cows milk at such a young age is probably the reason why Mason isn't handling it well. Their bellies are still trying to adjust to all the new yummy foods around and it can create upset tummies. My son was the same at 1 he was just too young to handle cows milk only. He's only recently turned two and I'm still giving him formula for sleeptime bottles but am giving him cows milk in a cup as well. Nutrition is so important for growing babies and formula gives them essential nutrients if it's missing from their other meals.

with skye she went onto cows milk at 11mths (well i started to replace some opf herbottles with cows milk), i found she was better with half formula/ half cow per bottle and increasing cow as we went. she hated al the toddler formulas she didnt mind normal formula (i too was using nan), but the cost was getting to me thats why i started introcducing cows milk. she wasnt fully on cow till about 15mths. if u r too unsure about which way to go, go c the child health nurse, thats what i did when i found skye wasnt quite tollerating full cow milk and she said to try mixing it up a bit. i will start doing the same with jaxon when he is old enough too.
good luck, hope u find a happy medium soon.

I completely understand what you mean. I have thought that if his little body is not taking the full cream milk at the moment then it is best to just keep him on the toddler formula till he is older. Like you said - they cater for what kiddies need for growing. Love the fact that I now know different options though for when he does change to normal milk. I guess with my son being six weeks early he is going to take his time anyway! Mum doesn't mind coz she keeps her baby longer:hugs:

hello
i to,tried this formula after i finished breastfeeding my little man at 10 mths,i found him to get belly aches from it.I have heard that it is a 'heavy' formula ,but it saying that a lot of mums and dads use it and have no troubles!!!I suppose it depends on your baby.
I used Heinz baby formula on my son, because they dont use 'GM' ingredients and his stomach agreed with it,now he uses Heinz Toddler Gold which has the omega fatty acids in it along with cows milk....
Good luck!!!!
