Well iv proved Drs wrong who said I wouldn't make it to 30 weeks. Then keep saying I won't go more than a fortnight more..But I keep proving them wrong so far.

My ds2 didn't need any special care at all born at 35 weeks.

But Ds3 was 32 weeks and was in NICU on CPAP etc

How early was your healthy prem bub?

Hi 3BNP,

Wow, you have done such a wonderful fantastic job of keeping that little girl of yours inside! You should be so so proud of yourself to make it to where you have!...

Back to the question, I don't really think of my DD as 'prem' I think for the exact reasons you have noted ie she didn't need to spend any time in special care or NICU etc. However my waters broke at 35.6 and she was born 36 exactly, so technically she was. She was supposed to go to SCN as her weight was under their 2.5kg weight cut off, but my MW was able to 'cut a deal' with them so to speak that I MUST feed her three hrly and she MUST have her blood sugars taken x hrly and I was able to have her on the ward with me, she was 2.4kg

We went home day on 3 and our only 'issues' have been Jaundice, but not enough to warrant light therapy as long as I keep up with the 3hrly feeds for the most part.

Mine came at 36 weeks and never had to leave my side, all was well with her. she just would have been heaps bigger if she made it to full term.

I just wanted to add that size doesn't necessarily mean no NICU/SCN either. DS2 was 3.09kg at 34+3 weeks and required ventilation at birth and then CPAP.

My boys were 36.4 (7lb5oz) & 36.6 (6lb3oz) & my daughter was 36.0 (6lb). They didn't need NICU/SCN & came home with me. But my twins came at 34.4 & were in SCN with naso gastric for 2 weeks.

My DS was born at 35+1 (2370g) and spent 3 weeks all up in NICU/SCN.
He was very sleepy and wouldnt wake to eat, apneoed 3 times, had issues regulating temp and was jaundiced.

Didnt have any drama once we got him home!

My 1st son was born at 36 weeks and my 2nd was 35 weeks and both spent about a week in the SCN. My 1st one had trouble feeding so was tube feed and had to go under the lights but with my 2nd he didn't have anything. Went straight onto the breast and fed.

My daughter was born at 36 weeks and was in NICU for 10 days. The reason they put her in there was because she had IUGR so was small (1.8kgs). As soon as I could feed her without assistance every 4 hours, she was allowed home. She weighed 1.9kgs when she left the hospital, which paed said was quite unusual because bubs that small usually sleep most of the day so needed support with feeding etc.

Turns out I had her early anyway. I had her at 34 weeks exactly. She was pretty ok when she was born and was supposed to only spend a shirt time in SCN to warm up. But she got very sickly so she got transferred to a NICU which is where she is now.

Hi Kadencze - my daughter is now just over 3. She is in the 50th percentile for weight and slightly taller than average. She was pretty small until about 2 - 2 1/2 though. She was never really delayed in her development and met her milestones pretty much on target - she sat unaided at 4 1/2 months but didn't walk until she was 15 months old. I had to do a lot of work with her when she was a baby to ensure she developed properly - the hospital physio helped a lot. Do the doctors think he will catch up?
