In an effort to properly commit to some changes in my Doula business, I have created the following survey and would appreciate it if some of you would stop by and fill out the 15 short questions so that I may better have an idea of which direction I need to be headed in.
I am specifically interested in hearing from Perth mamas, but this survey is open to other Aussie mothers too.
Thanks so much!

Filled it in for you.

I don't live in Perth, but DP is from there...so perhaps for my next birth I'll be living there by then (I've already granted him permission to move back there...).

It's so lovely to see the feedback flooding in! My main goal here is to make sure that my Doula service is as mama-friendly as I can get it and to really listen to how new mothers feel, what they want, and let them know that I am genuinely interested in their needs and wants.
Everyone has given great responses and I am so in awe at how varied they become in some places and how akin they are in others. Through your answers I can see the common feelings we all share, and the individual reflections that remind me that every woman is unique and that all our voices deserve to be heard.
Thank you so much to all of you who have so far leant me your experiences, and for those who will do so before this survey is done.
Your contributions are much appreciated!

I have just filled the survey out. I think an area of education for parents to be would be how to deal with care providers that do not care about the consumer. Women have the right to the type of birth they want, but so often are opressed by the protocol of idiot CP's who are only interested in covering their arses incase something goes wrong.

I strongly agree Carla!

Unfortunately, it's been my experience that many mamas just aren't interested in actively pursuing their childbirth education choices or their rights, know what I mean? They have the right, but how many are acting on that right or even interested in what those rights are?

For us to change the way birth is perceived, mothers need to have an interest in being an active part of their own care and some just aren't willing or able to trust in themselves enough to do that.
I sincerely hope this can change in the very near future!

So far - for me personally - it hasn't been a case of not having evidence-based information readily available for pregnant mamas, it's that they haven't stepped outside of the hospital-led environment to really learn what their true options are (hospital antenatal classes are free but useless in my opinion, lol).
Truly frustrating!

Honestly though, the answers I am getting give me much hope that things are finally ready and able to change as more women come to understand that they are the real decision-makers about birth and their own bodies. Sadly, I am finding that many mamas reach this enlightenment only after their trust in their care provider has been betrayed through unnecessary interventions and they are left to deal with the trauma of processing their births alone. :(

Too true. Women have a trust in the hospital system, and in Obstetric lead care, and it is only when they realise that there are better options, or have that trust broken do they seek better alternatives.

I am so glad that you are having the opportunity to VBAC! Many care providers have started refusing women who want one, so I'm glad you found someone who can support you to birth the way you and your body want!
Knowing your true self and planning ahead is fantastic, and I'm really happy that you got some ideas from the survey about ways to help keep you relaxed and in tune with your body. I wish you the best of luck and genuinely hope you can acheive your birth goals!
