Voting period will commence Wednesday 1st December and close Sunday 5th December.
Guidelines:
There will be one challenge per week (date ranges above). Photo must be taken during the challenge and brief date range. Photos taken outside of the date range should not be entered.
Your image is open to your personal interpretation, but should be within the creative brief. Ie, Macro photo can be of anything, but must be RED in full or in part. This will help to keep a common thread running through all participants entries.
You can upload your image at any time during the date range, but it must be entered prior to 9pm on the last day of the brief challenge. Image must not be changed, or edited once it has been submitted/uploaded/posted.
You may use Photoshop or another editing program for basic editing such as level, contrast, hue, saturation, blur, sharpen, crop, border, etc adjustments, but please state what kind of editing you have done. Adding or removing (unless its removed by a simple cropping of the image) things from the picture should not be done. In consideration of other entrants/viewers, file size should be limited to a maximum of 500kb and/or 1000px wide/high.
Please do not canvas for PERSONAL votes. It is unfair to newer or “quieter” members.
Please share what type of camera you have used, and a brief explanation of your shot. It’s meant to be fun and hopefully we can all learn from each other.
And the MOST IMPORTANT THING OF ALL....Enjoy the challenge, and happy photographing! :yelclap:
PLEASE CLICK HERE TO POST YOUR ENTRIES (http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?p=5258967)
Please keep all discussions in this thread, and use the above only for the uploading of your images. :)

Em - I'll open a thread for photos to be posted in the morning, with a new one each week for the different brief.
Probably might be a good idea to keep chat in here, and the photo thread just for photos, that way you dont have to download 10megs every time you refresh the thread. LOL. :D (might not be an issue for some, but i know i have very limited downloads). :)
chicken and eggs mum
25-10-2010, 11:00
Thats what I was thinking Kat - keep this thread for chatter, another one for photos!! :-) Smiles!!!!!!
(sorry didnt get to chat much yesterday, was good to see you though!!!!!)

25-10-2010, 11:01
Actually, I might get organised now. LOL.... HAHA! I cant help myself!
Very exciting!! :)
I have a few ideas, but think i need to challenge myself a bit more and think outside that square!!! LOL.
I was just thinking i really need to get the camera back out! :)
:yelclap::yelclap: For Kat for being super organised! :) :) :)

I just thought I'd mention, for those who dont have, or know how to use Photoshop. The basic edit functions (if you choose to use them) can be done with a click of a button on a program called Google Picasa. :)

Has anyone else been hot of the mark today with their camera at the ready?
Ive taken 4 or is it 5 shots of different things, but there is one in particular I love, Im going to have to find something super special to beat it out of my favorite place!
CazHazKidz
26-10-2010, 13:45
I don't think I can do it. You have to have special equipment to do a macro shot right?
chicken and eggs mum
26-10-2010, 13:50
Caz
Is there a little flower button on your camera?? you should be able to press that and it will allow you to take a macro shot!! If yiou hold it down you should be able to super macro it. If you have manual focus, you should be able to use that as well.....
What sort of camera do you have?? Then I might be able to give specific help!!
I have a 6 year old canon and can do macro, super macro and manual focus.... so if yours is newer you should be right!!
Mischief
26-10-2010, 13:52
You can take a normal shot zoomed in as much as possible (just make sure that its focused on your main subject) at a higher resolution and then crop it.
Macro should be at least life size, or larger. :)
Mischief
26-10-2010, 13:53
Yep Em! I used to do Macro on my 9 year old Canon Powershot!
People confuse Macro with Micro. Like I said, life size, or larger. It doesnt have to be making a bee look as big as a cat. :)
CazHazKidz
26-10-2010, 13:55
I have a Canon 450D
Yep it has a little flower icon. hahah. I did wonder if that's all I had to do.
Thanks :D
chicken and eggs mum
26-10-2010, 13:55
yup, just use that button caz, then you should be able to get closer to the subject and it will still focus and be ok!! good luck!! here if you need any more advice!!!!
Kat, Gotta love the Canon Powershot, thats what we have and I do LOOOVE IT!!!
But we are hoping to upgrade soon!!
what do you have???
We are looking at canons, cause thats what we have and know, but I have also had a nikkon and liked that as well, they are very much on par from what I have heard!!!
Chunkydunks
26-10-2010, 14:05
For the little cameras I was told Olympus are really good. We had one and it took really good photos but DS got hold of it and ruined the power button.
After I pick up Ds I'm scooting around to a few place to see if they have the charger I need. Otherwise I'm ordering one online. I hope it makes it here in time.
Mischief
26-10-2010, 14:05
Em - We have a Nikon D40. Its really good. :)
My only issue with the old Powershot, is that it churns though the batteries so darn fast! But I still use it on occasion! :D
Caz - The most important thing to remember with Macro is attention to detail. The idea is to capture something that you normally wouldnt pay much attention to because its to small. Yanno?
Mischief
26-10-2010, 14:07
What camera do you have MT? :)
Chunkydunks
26-10-2010, 14:08
My DSLR is a Nikon D70s.
Other than that I've been using SIL's compact which is a Canon of some sort. It's ok but nothing compared to the big one.
chicken and eggs mum
26-10-2010, 14:09
Ours isnt too bad on batteries, we got some for our honeymoon from batterworld, they cost us a mint, but never had a problem!!!
Might have to catch up one day so I can play with your nikkon and jes' canon!!! then i might be able to decide!!!!!
CazHazKidz
26-10-2010, 14:10
cool thanks!
Hmm.. something small and red with lots of detail... thinking thinking..
Mischief
26-10-2010, 14:22
Caz, as long as its life size.... Ie, an apple could be macro as long as its life sized in the picture once its scaled down to 1000px at its widest point. :)
This is so much fun! :) I have been busy busy shooting today.... Have a few half decent shots that i am happy with - But am going to go and get some different bits an pieces tomoro to play with! :)
Cazhay - here is a really good example of Macro photography and different alternatives that you can use..

This sound great I had fun doing the canon 5 challenge but I never got time to upload my entries
I've got a Canon 500D with twin lens kit as well as a EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens
hopefully I get the time to take some pic's for this challenge
Ok so I'm a complete amateur here, Macro has me confused as  I have taken a shot but don't know if its quite macro or not :o If I enter it can someone tell me if its right?? Also if I upload a image now and change my mind before end of challenge can I change it?
~Temet Nosce~
27-10-2010, 12:41
sounds interesting, might join in if thats ok :)
Mischief
27-10-2010, 14:18
Larlee - Just post a link in here and we can tell you if its Macro or not. :)
Once photos are uploaded into the other thread, they should stay there (or Im going to get sooooo confused putting together the portofilio for voting). But I have no issues with anyone linking in here to a photo they would like some advice on. :)
Its meant to be fun, and a good way to learn, as well as a bit of a competition. :D
Mischief
27-10-2010, 14:21
3BB and KK - Welcome along guys! KK, yes you certainly can join, its open for anyone to enter until the first challenge is closed (after that time its pretty pointless, as you wont have the full 5 for *porfolio* time). :)
Cant wait, Im sure ive seen some of your picture before and thought they were lovely!

WOOT! That is great news MT!!!! :D Have you set up all your ideas ready? LOL
BTW guys, TabouliRasta and She-Ra have both put up their entries. Very creative guys! Well done. :) (In the Entries thread)
As for me, I have several, but Im struggling to know which one to put up!
Going out on Friday with my camera to visit the botanical gardens just to see if I can capture something a little more traditional, so far Ive gone pretty abstract with my shots.
Thanks Mischief, here is the link
http://s185.photobucket.com/albums/x198/larissavdv/?action=view¤t=macro2.jpg
I hope I have got the right idea :o I'm wish I could blame baby brain, but I've never even heard of macro before this week.... yes I live under a rock
I'm so indecisive :p might leave it till monday anyway, I love this challenge it's been too long since I was creative last and if I leave it till monday it will encourage me to take more photo's :D

27-10-2010, 14:54
That looks pretty close to a macro to me! Macro should be life sized or bigger. Id focus a little bit more on the red though for this brief. ;) That is a great shot though! So precious! :goodvibes:
Also, if you go and have a look at the entry thread, Ive popped a link to Wikipedia, about what a macro is, and there are some awesome examples there. :)
Many people confuse Macro with Micro (I know I always thought they were the same).
thanks Mischief, will play around with it regarding the red. Will keep shooting too:D
Great shots so far!! :) :) :)

Regarding the final portfolios, would it be easiest for us to make a group on Flickr so we can sort and view each competitor's portfolio easily?
Mischief
27-10-2010, 19:34
RB - Ive created one, but Im not sure if everyone has a Flickr account. Maybe I can upload everyones photos and name the set by their username as we go, with a public link?
Then the set is nice and easy to view come the *vote off* time.
What do you think? :)
Mischief
27-10-2010, 19:37
Trish! Me too, I had one that was leading the others, and now Im really not sure! Im still so hung, Ive got 2 stand out favorites. Grrrr!
Itty! I know! How is your challenge going?
Mischief
27-10-2010, 19:44

I took a couple today (inside with crappy light) using red paint
but I'm not 100% sure I like them:confused:
have a look here (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=252112&id=546303187&l=722b137a59)

I would love to join! I just got a Canon eos1000d and am trying to figure out how to use it. I don't have a lot of time because of a non-sleeping refluxing 10 week old, but I'll see what I can do :) Not sure how to upload the photos though?

That's fine I was just thinking it would be easier for you if we had a group and everyone submitted their own albums(because you have already put in so much effort already:)).
Alternatively, if everyone who had Flickr (or opens a free account) could just send a link to their own gallery for the final voting?
Downloading/Uploading, ect is going to chew up your d/l too...

Bit of a question that my book isn't answering for me. Our D70 come with two lenses. One is a 70-300mm and the other is a 18-70mm. Which one is better for macros?
I used the 18-70mm.... but thats the only one I have. worked pretty well for me.

IttyBitty! Cant wait to see your entry! :)
When can you join these? How do you put ure name down for it?
Hubby just bought a new camera for me and I am a complete amatuer so have no idea what I am doing...but would like to try out the camera capabilities.

Everyone who is keen to join but hasnt submitted an entry yet, dont forget it closes at 9pm (standard time) tomorrow night. Then I'll start pulling together the portfolios and adding each week as the brief closes. :D
Its been so darn hard for me not to start taking shots for the Portraiture brief yet. LOL Darn it! Cant wait for Tuesday now! :D

With the flickr/gallery thing, just lemme know. I have a Flickr account, so can either link directly to a set, or post to a gallery.

Hope Kat doesn't mind me posting the link here.. But here is the group on flickr that Kat created!
I think that everyone is posting their image in the other thread (the Entries thread) but it would be cool to share on flickr too that way we can comment on each others shots etc??!! and i know i always love to sticky at peoples other photos! :)

I ended up opening a Photobucket account so I could see my picture in my post. I couldnt work out how to do it with Flickr. What do I need to do in future to include my picture in my post using Flickr? :)
Mischief
31-10-2010, 20:46
Don't stress. I'm happy to link/upload to flicker unless people already have an account. Saves confusion both ways. ;-)
If you guys who have flickr accounts want to join the group and add pics, could you just include your username too so I don't get confuzzled?
Thanks guys! :D

Dont forget guys... closing in less than 5 hours now!!!

02-11-2010, 07:36
Dont forget voting will be on all 5 entries, not on singular ones. So if you arent in the Macro Challenge..... You are still welcome to participate, but wont have a full profile at the end to be in the vote off. :o
So if anyone has missed out, I'm OK with you uploading in the next hour or so (I'll close it at 10am, just this time, its 837am here now) for THIS FIRST CHALLENGE (MACRO - RED) ONLY.
MummaTissy - Could you even take a picture on your phone and use that? You have 4 more entries to make up for its lesser *quality*.

I know someone above said they voted to give you an extension. :D
I vote for an extension for MT (just this once) :D

I need to take the camera out on the weekend. Ive been so uninspired this week for some reasons! :(

I've had a schnitzel of a week. Recovering from a 1100km round trip, lost teeth and two kids with croup! I really wanted to try another setting with drinking glasses, or one huge bulbous glass with straws and fruit and umbrellas, but I'm not gonna get there. It was really funny (funny interesting, not ha ha) that I initially went with an hilarious shot of boy child wearing tie and glasses, then big girl had them on, and I just caught her in this lovely moment. I can see her thinking, I can feel it.
If you do another one of these when this one is finished I would love to join up!

How is everyone going? :)
TR - Your photo is just stunning. Little miss is just adorable. I'd love to see your other photo too! :D
MrsKB - That would be great. :D
I uploaded mine. I found portraiture harder than I'd thought to be honest. Im used to taking candid snaps and chosing those I like the most at the end of the day, but needing to use a prop made it so much harder.
I had a very clear idea in my mind what I wanted, but I couldnt find any adults with the right characteristics who would SIT for me. LOL

No backup, but apparently the harddrive is recoverabe, we need to get an external so we can recover and backup and reinstall windows, etc.
Hopefully we can borrow a laptop HD cable, etc.
Grrr... We have been meaning to get an external for months but always have something mmore important to spend $100 on.

How is everyone going with the next "challenge" I must admit i am finding it quite difficult - Landscape/seascape is not really my thing so have no idea what constitutes a good photo!! lol.... I headed down to a local beach last night - was a stormy cloudy night made for some ok photos - still searching for my original idea though....
Hope everyone is if finding it a bit easier then i.
look forward to seeing everyones shots!! :)
Well DP and I share a car at moment so haven't been able to get out to take a landscape :( will have car tomorrow and Sunday so gonna take a drive and hope I find something!

Im struggling. I have a pretty clear idea of what I want to do, but havent been able to take the prefect shot yet. :(
How's everyone going? I have one image I'm pretty happy with but it's nothing really special, went for drive this morning and almost ran out of petrol in the middle of nowhere. If we have time tomorrow was thinking of going to check out one of our ideas for our wedding, might get a better image there. This one is such a hard one to find time to go and do.

Larlee - Ive had a struggle with this one too! I finally got a shot that I loved this morning. Just put it up actually!
Oh... glad you didnt run out of fuel! Ive had that happen before, its not much fun at all!
How is everyone else going?
Larlee is right, it takes a bit of doing this brief. Ive found it hard making the time to go out, Wednesday I took a couple of shots on the way home from school, but I didnt love them. Im my own biggest critique though!

13-11-2010, 14:41
I'm finding it hard to get around to as well! It is such a shame I don't have much time as there are some really spectacular landscapes around here - beaches, mountains, waterfalls, rainforests and beautiful farmland! Aghhh... Spoilt for choice and time poor!! I have a couple of shots i'm not quite happy with but will have to do if I can't get anything else.
Loving the entries we have so far :)
Mischief- Oh god, I had just enough to get back to civilization  couldn't imagine being stuck out on side of road out woop woop with a 6 month old at 5:30am and 1 nappy:p. Only managed to take about 8 shots before panicking and heading home. I have just put up 1 of them now, as DP and I have decided on gardening tomorrow now. so this will have to do, it's kind grown on me anyway. Love your image BTW!

I'm loving the images so far. What amazing places we all live in.
I have struggled with this one....and I'm surrounded by land! it's just such a sh!tty time of year, snakes and ants and flies etc, plus this season is a cr@pper, I just don't feel that inspired /glum.
I'll try to go out tomorrow, otherwise will decide from some I took earlier in the week.

Larlee - Thanks honey! And yep, I would have panicked too!!! I actually did a shot very similar to yours, but no where as good. It lacked character that yours had captured! (I had the wrong lens on too, so that didnt help... doh! stupid me not taking the camera bag that day with the different lens!)
aLL - Did you get some shots today? :) I'll add you to FB when I log in later! :D
TabRas - You take amazing photos. Seeing some of the ones you have taken of home, wow. They are great shots, and really pulled at my heart strings. I dont know how you do it, really I just dont. :hugs:

I managed to get out briefly today. We drove to a place aptly named The Promised Land about 20 mins from my house. DS2 and I have a cold, so I literally jumped out of the car and snapped a few pics, so technically they're not perfect. I think I need to learn to use this camera!
Doing justice to the landscape around here is hard :(. I'll add the colour pics to FB to give you an idea of how lovely it is.

She-ra is it normal measles or german measles, i think there has been some cases going around.
I swear there is something weird going on in this challenge, my laptop died last night!!! I had to use the apple computer that I never use and had to use the editing tool in photobucket. The biggest challenge was using an apple mouse, no left click aarrgh.
Alittleloopy I LOVE The Promised Land, it is my favourite place ever, we stayed in cabins up there and swam in the never never river. I would move in a hearbeat if there was a good job for Hubby.

Argh macs!! They hate me lol. What's with no right click?! It's useful Mac makers!
I don't know, well doc said rubella so that's German measles hey? He was an after hours clinic doc, I have my doubts about those... But her temp has dropped so

Went out last night but didnt end up taking a single shot. :( Went out again today and was totally uninspired. The boys were being ratbags, my temper was frayed, and the shots I did get lack any sort of character at all and met with the DELETE function.

The one I really wanted to capture, I caught just in the edge of the frame - it was my lovely, messy DD rolling down a hill!!! not on purpose!!!! LOL - hope I can fiddle with that one a bit and see what I can do!!!
Stay tuned for my photo!!!

Sounds great Em! :) I love the impromptu photos! :D
I had several ideas to start with. One was the blur of tail lights going past the museum in Hobart. But the night ended up being a late one and I was to tired to be setting up the tripod and then playing with my shutter to get the prefect shot. Its such a long drive home, especially with the wildlife at night and doing it tired is a bad idea.
My other idea was to get the boys flying a kite and snap that, but the weather on the weekend was shocking or not windy!
I had a few plays with other ideas, including sparklers, glow sticks, and smoke, but in the end it was the birdies that I thought showed the most movement. LOL

Chicken & eggs mum that reminds me of a photo i took when DS was only about 8 months old, it was at Hunter Valley gardens in their storybook garden we rolled him down the hill with Jack & Jill it was so cute. I should do it again now he is 4.

The dog wouldn't be in it, too much like a bath for her , the kids were busy and the blue wren wouldn't sit still for long enough so I played with the hose by myself for a while.
Am hoping the Glee Club is out of the charts by the morning for the next challenge. Will someone post the no.1 song so we are all on the same page?

oh god, it had to be one of her songs didnt it, silly girl.....
I might just take inspiration from the title... LOL - I dont care much for her music and was rather offended by her on sunrise - will the film clip offend me too, or is it ok?!?!?!?!?
Pinks song would have been GREAT!!!!
Tbh I didn't know the song either. I'm going to have to download it! Must be on YouTube?
I'm the same! I've just listened to it and am still in the dark!! I think this is going to be another hard week!! :-)

I actually like the song (but I havent seen the film clip, and I didnt see her on sunrise), there are some pretty cool lyrics in there. Ive posted a link on my FB page. It doesnt have a film clip. LOL.
Ive got so many ideas of what to do.... Oh its endless really! Gah!
The title of the song makes it much easier though.
We R Who We Are... We R Family
We R Who We Are... We R Happy
We R Who We Are... We R Country
Etc... the list is endless.
Or if you take from the lyrics, again... endless!!!! Im so excited by this challenge. Im just so glad it wasnt Flying in G6 or whatever that horrific screech of a sound is... LMAO!
How is everyone going with this challenge??
I am feeling inspired just have to wait till friday when I have my SIL to photograph, hopefully the inspiration doesn't go away!! lol.
I am quite enjoying this one - can be interpreted so many ways! :)
Its quite exciting on the home stretch now..

You are so inspiring girls!! Thanksischeif for all your organizing. Sorry I have dipped out :(
Really really long story short... I have a heart condition. It started 6 weeks ago getting progressively worse. After soooo many tests it's not funny, I am now on beta blockers. Which is good for sitting around on my bum, not so good for getting out taking photos. So at the risk of sounding poor me....... Poor me!! Lol
Oh and for those who remember dd was sick, not measles, she had Scarlett fever! Scarlett fever!! Who the hell gets Scarlett fever these days?! Lol
Keep clicking girls, I am loving watching!

So, what do people think about doing another challenge? Maybe after Xmas? :)
Defiantly another after xmas, how about we have a mini xmas special, bit more relaxed, just something like make a compilation of 5 images that best represent your christmas!! with just an end date. What do you think?

Aggghhh!! Mischief, I have had no internet since Friday morning and it just got fixed this morning. Stupid Telstra said there was an outage at the exchange. On top of that my car is getting fixed for rego and is currently with my uncle (a mechanic), since Thursday, and my DP was in Sydney for his mother's birthday! I had no car and no internet for days!!
Can I please, please make a late entry?? I took a picture on Sunday, not amazing, but something
BTW great work everyone and I can't wait until the next challenge!!

A lot of us are doing a 365. But maybe this could work into that and give us some direction while we're doing it? Does someone want to organise that? I'm too hopeless :D:freakingout:
