Hi ladies
I am just curious about who was TTC while overweight, like techinically obese according to BMI, cos i am and its been nearly 11 months of TTC with no luck. I was just wondering how long it took other overweight ladies to get their BFP.
Thanks heaps, i am trying to convince myself that its not really a problen, i feel ok, and i never have high blood pressure and i exercise fairly regularly.
sorry for the :ecomcity:
Doula..I am in that same range of whats considered morbdily obese. I fell the very first time I tired so dont give up hope. My Doc said that despite my weight I am healthy and there i sno reason I shoudl not have a good pregnancy and a healthy baby.

Hey doula, I'm obese according to my BMI too, and 'trying' to lose weight to help with TTC but *looks at bag of jelly dinosaurs next to keyboard* it doesnt seem to be working :D
No advice, just wanting to say I'm in the same boat and I'll be watching this thread keenly.

Hey Doula
I am obese according to the BMI, but i am a solid build with a fair bit of muscle so it really doesn't count for me. The BMI never takes into account your muscle mass or ur build. I believe that if you r overweight it doesn't play that much of a factor in it. I knew this women and she was REALLY  big and she had a baby. So being a bit overweight can't be the problem especially when u r exercising and ur diet is ok. I have been able to fall twice first time i was bigger than what i was the second time and i still lost both. Who knows why :banghead: i fell preg first go both times and now it's been six months and no BFP for me as yet.
Keep going at it & i am sure we will all get there one day soon :D

Hi doula!
I actually don't pay much attention to the BMI. My BMI says I am obese for my height, but even when I lose weight, it still says I'm overweight. I am actually very heavy for my size. I weigh about 90kgs at the moment & even though I am certainly no Elle MacPherson, no-one can ever believe I weigh as much as I say I do. Even my Dr is surprised when she weighs me!
Having said that, it took us a long time to finally conceive #1 (26 months of actively trying). We had numerous tests done & every time, my hormone levels were fine & I was ovulating perfectly well, so I can't see that my weight had anything to do with it.
I did manage to lose 17kgs before falling PG last time & almost as soon as I hit my ideal weight - BFP! But I think this was more likely a coincidence. I was carrying about 10-15kgs too much when I fell PG almost straight away this time.
Good luck with it all!
Can I just say, as a person that is overweight, ttc and has a BMI off the chart (so they say), please do not place too much emphasis on BMI charts and scales and the like.
I was in the emergency services (before children) and my fitness instructor at the academy was classified "morbidly obese". A FITNESS INSTRUCTOR? She ran the pants off all of the students and other instructors, but she was really short (5ft 1")! The BMI charts do not compensate for overly short people, or overly tall people. Therefore distorting the result.
Doula, please don't get disheartened. Things will work out for you I know it because you are such a beautiful person (whom I don't know), but I can tell. Your posts are always friendly and encouraging and you are always one of the first to congratulate others on their BFP when all the time you are holding your breath for your own. That to me is a true beautiful person.
You will get your BFP real soon, cause you deserve it!!! :hugs:

i too am in the obese range though was dieting & lost 5 kilos when i got my suprise BFP - so i dont think weight is too much of an issue as long as you are kind of healthy - mind you i was 15 kilos lighter years ago & doing IVF (5 cycles) & not one of them worked despite 3 embroyos being but back - would be great to know what makes them stick in there!

thanks so much everyone for your respsones, it really is giving me hope that it will happen soon :fingerscrossed:
I was considered obese etc... when I conceived my DS#1 took 3 months and DS#2 took 6 months I had been on the pill for quite along time though and I'm classed as morbidly obese now and TTC #3 so we'll see if it takes longer or not, this time I had the IUD so I may conceive quicker but who knows. Try not to worry too much I don't think weight is always a factor.

hey doula,
After my Dr's appt this morning, i found out my BMI is 42. She said its meant to be 25????? But my blood pressure and cholesterol and everything is completely within normal ranges. As you know I am TTC #1 so will see what part this has to play in it I guess. I am trying to lose weight now, so we'll see i guess......
I was probably 15-20 kgs overweight and I got pregnant the first time... but I consider myself to be EXTREMELY lucky.
hi l have been trying to concevie now for 4yrs, and all l am getting told is it is because l am overweight, l have been told by the womens hospital in melb that l have pocs and l have been on metformin now for 12months, l go for a check up in oct and l am thinking of asking the doc to put me on tabs to help me to concevie, l am thinking that l am onlt 32 now 33 next b'day but l need to try why do all the other stuff if not this
Interesting thread. Im 'overweight' with a bmi of 36 - im also very muscular. Its been 9 months now since we started ttc and it was only after i stopped taking the pill that i started to gain massive amounts of weight rapidly, ive since been diagnosed with pco - not to be confused with pcos, even though they have the same outcome. I am waiting to see 2 specialists and hope the tests and outcomes will be positive for DF and i. I cant imagine not being able to have children and have taken great strength and inspiration from those such as Leilani, Lizzymcfizzy and Morganj just to name a couple- the journeys they have gone through to get where they are now are inspirational:yes: and encouraging - though im sure they themselves may not think it so!

A lot seems to depend on whether or not your weight is affecting your cycle. If you're ovulating normally, looks like shouldn't be too much impact on TTC. Heaps of articles about it on the www:

When I concieved DS I wasn't overweight but put on 30 kilos during pregnancy. Now I'm TTC again and it is taking much longer, my cycles are long and I'm not sure that I'm ovulating, I'm starting to wonder if its the extra weight I'm carrying.
I'm thinking of taking next month off and trying to lose 5+ kilos with the Tony Ferguson diet then starting to TTC again.

Just take another look at your fertility statue. Does she look thin to you??:) From what I have read you are better being overweight and TTC than underweight cos nature needs to know that your body can maintain a growing embryo so you need a few extra kilos. I am overweight too BTW and old (37)
