View Full Version : Cake help
Hi guys,
Ive decided to make Rileys bday cake. When I was little my mum had a cake book and every year I would pick out a cake and mum would make it for my party. It was always so exciting and my mum did the best job of the cakes!!Anyway I want to carry on the tradition for Riley.
I was just wondering if anyone knew of places where you can buy or hire cake tins,or buy the edible cake transfers?I want to do a winnie the pooh one:yes:
So yeah, any help would be great Thanks!

Try the yellow pages under bakery and party's. Or ring or local bakery. You can find the edible cake transfers at the supermarkets, ebay, bakery all over the place. Hope this helps.
Hey Chel, spotlight sell the tins, all different designs, umm you can get the eddible icing from there as well, and at the supermarket too, thats cool your doing a cake for Riley, we did Jacob's first cake as well, it was a disarster(sp) so this year opted for a brought one,

hey chels spot light sells the pooh bear cake tin its a big one of his head and some of his shirt its really cute i think if i remember right its around $30 or u could make a cake and then place a pic of this head on the cake and cut it out, i did one for a home ec class in yr 10 had to make a kids cake and yh was really easy to do and looked really good so even if u dont want to spend the money on the tin u can still do a great job sure u will have fun wit it..

thats so great chels...
i do a similar thing where i let the boys choose what sort of cake they want for their birthday & on their birthday we get up early & we all make it.. including them... they love it..
i use to just let them pick a box from the supermarket,
but now we are trying to be more healthy -have no additives etc,-
we watch cooking shows & they often say, "i want that cake for my birthday mummy!"....
its a bit of fun,
this year oldest has chosen a pineapple/carrot cake [last year it was a date-loaf:laughing: ]
they saw on hueys cooking adventures, then youngest wants an ice-cream cake.... that will be interesting?
[MIL thinks its ridiculous of course - im sooo depriving them]
as for the transfers etc...
i have purchased a couple from woolworths [sorry safeway down where i live now.. lol]
you go to their bakery - if its a big store- & ask..
they may only have a small range, but winnie being popular, you may have some luck..
good luck with it!!
(oh, i forgot... i have a Ryleigh too!)
I am the cake making Queen Chels, I love it!!
I plan on doing the same for Lilla, making a cake very year it is so special, I tried to get her to pick one this year but all she did was lick the pages & say "mmm Yummy":D
I have seen the pooh bear cake toppers in the supermarket, if need be I have about 8 different cake tins(i make every ones cakes & they always seem to require a cake tin I don't have  ) & also a Barney one I had to get in America but I did not end up using it, so if anyone want to lend it fine with me
Anyway good luck.

Hi Chels. There is a specialist cake shop near where I live (which is not helpful to you because we're in different states), but I'm sure there'd be one near you as well. Stores that sell cake decorating equipment (quite often they are not in retail areas) often hire out tins. Also, some of them will make a "plate" thingy for the top of a cake if you're not confident decorating (eg. they'll put a pic of winnie, or the wiggles on an "icing plate").
Btw, love your avatar! What a cute cow!

I brought the new womens day childrens cake book at my local newsagent for $12 its awesome and the cakes are easy and fun to do!!! I highly reccommend getting a copy! Your local cake shops or cake decorating stores should hire cake tins out though if you want to do that.

Chel you can still get that book at most book stores, plus there are others you can get for the kids cakes. I'm going to get one soon, they are $20 i think,
Mel told me the original one was out of print now?She has a newer version but we both agreed the old school one was way cooler:D

I've seen the train one in the shops chel, along with the mushroom one, I even saw it at whitcouls in chch, so it must have been re printed, cause the mushroom one has different cakes in it, i'll be keeping a eye out when i'm next at the shops

Well if anyone has seen the old WW one (with the train) at the shops let me know, casue I've hunted high and low for one and ended up buying the new version cause every book shop / news agent I went to told me the old version hasn't been printed for years.
The new version is good, but I want the old one - being the sentimental person that I am...lol
lol Mel, i'll let you know when I ever go out shopping again lol, I definatly know you can still get it in NZ, cause whitcouls in Riccarton mall always had it, but its expensive lol thats why I never brought it, thoes books are cheaper here, I like the older version too, brings back childhood memories
Mum just posted me over her old book!!!!!!
Im so excited!!She wrote me a wee note that said:
"Now yours to use for the future, sorry of the poor condition of it but it has been used many times.Hope you can use it and treasure it as I have for the past 20 years."
AWWW Mum you rock!!
I think I might make the train for his bday!I looked through the book, reminising all the cakes Mum had made for me over the years!
