Hi there,
My DD has had reflux from day dot and I think she and I have just had enough now. She now finally (at 4 months), will have day sleeps after about a good half and hour of carrying her around shhhing very loudly into her ear. She sleeps for 40 minutes to an hour at the most. She is not sleeping at night.
She spews profusely. It is constant. Some days the spewing bothers her more than others. She is on Zantac which helps a little. Anyway, the point I am slowly getting to is: Has anyone expressed say two or three feeds and added thickner and did it help at all? I won't change her to formula and don't want to supplement. Also, did anyone find their child responded better to losec than zantac? I know in a couple of months she will grow out of it but it is just wearing me out completely.
Thanks:)

Hi,

I have cared for babies that have thickener in BM for a couple of feeds a day. It dosent make a huge difference IMO but the mothers have decided to do it and are happy with what is going. Have you asked your pead about anyother medications (Cisapride and others) which helps the stomach empty faster following a feed, this helps as the milk has been moved on before they get a chance to vomit.

Well as you know E was a huge chucker I came to the end of my tether few weeks ago and rang my SIL who has 4 kids, and she said space the feeds just to trial it stop the demand feeding it's fine after 4 months to trial run this approach, so I did E now goes 2 hours between feeds and NO SPEWING at all only if she eats then rolls on to her tummy but otherwise it's gone. Just an idea, maybe you have tried that already? Also She is back to napping 4 times a day for an hour or so each time.. Never thought I'd be thankful to my SIL lol

Thanks for your advice guys.
P, I'm struggling to get here to eat at all at the moment. She sucks and screams and sucks and screams. Since 4 am she's had two small feeds both of which she has chucked a large portion of. We are off to the dr so I'll see what he says. She's not dehydrated at all though, still weeing heaps.
Goosie: I might give it a go and see what happens. I will also definately enquire about the other medication.

Tickle.. your bub sounds exactly like my DD:

"She sucks and screams and sucks and screams. Since 4 am she's had two small feeds both of which she has chucked a large portion of."

I never used Zantac, instead we used Losec and had great results. I used to give DD the losec, 1/2 tablet twice a day with some solids. I found a tiny drop of hot water broke the tablet appart and I just mixed it in with the rice mix.

Hope things start improving for you soon :hugs: .
