i plan to work next year after i have finished my certificate 3 in children services. but i want to also get my diploma. can anyone in the childcare industry tell me if a centre would allow me to work part time while i study for my diploma? and also would it be better to study the diploma by correspondence or at tafe?
i am just trying to figure out if my goals are actually workable
All the centres I have worked at have had lots of staff studying, some worked part time, others full time. I have worked in centres where the group leader was still studying for her diploma (not sure if that was really allowed). Usually the staff who were studying would work full time in the centre and do their study at night or on their lunch breaks...I remember one centre did allow an hour or 2 a week for study but not sure if it was paid or not.
It is definatly possible, and possibly a little easier coz you have the other staff there to help if you have any questions.

hi,
i work in childcare too and have my diploma. i am currently studying my batcherlor in childrens services. Yes its great working in childcare and a diploma opens up so many new options for you...(not to mention better pay:D ) Most centres do allow u to study and work and some even have job share for people who are studing.. Also I have recently learnt that if you work for abc u can work as a group leader level 4 and study through abc as well.. and because you work for them its actually cheaper to do the units.. so theres another idea for you. I hope I have helped you a bit pm me if you have any more questions and ill be glad to help!
good luck!

becky_boo84- i emailed ABC earlier this month to put my name down for work starting next year and they said they have passed on my resume and details to the regional manager.
