View Full Version : Teaching the next generation
I was at work today and my two girls were at home with their nanny. On the way home from work after she picked me up she told me a story that made me very proud.....the two girls were playing together and she could hear DD1 getting quite heated in her "instructions" to DD2 so went to investigate.
DD1 ( 3 1/2 years) was lifting up her top and telling DD2 (22 months) "you are the baby and you have to have a feed from my breast now". DD2 was not cooperating and was refusing to attach but instead kept lifting her top and announcing "my baby feed". The nanny explained to DD1 that DD2 was a big girl now and didn't need breast feeding. DD1 insisted "no she is the baby and I want to feed her". When the nanny suggested that maybe she could give DD2 a bottle instead DD1 replied (and this is the bit that really amused me) "No - the breast milk is best for her, she has to have a breast feed." Hmmmm.....the things we pass on to our daughters!!
(Apparently the whole dilemma was resolved when DD1 decided that they would play a different game that involved Spiderman and no mummies, babies or breasts  )

That is the cutest story. You've got 2 very smart little cookies there
That is so cute T, just priceless
I loved it when Cooper was smaller, you never saw him using a bottle to feed his 'bubbas' or teddies, he always lifted his top and attached them instead!
It was so lovely though :)

Its cute to see them copy mum, you've done a good job laying the foundations for future breastfeeders:smiliedance:
My son @ 5yo gave parenting advice to a women in the checkout line, her baby was crying and he said "excuse me lady I think your baby needs some boobie"
She wasnt a breastfeeder and didnt take kindly to his advice either:laughing: and replace the dummy.

On this topic Im so sick of seeing "baby alive" type dolls with bottles. We should be encouraging little girls to learn about breastfeeding.

When DD plays "mummys" and she gives her baby a bottle, I always ask her why she's feeding it with a bottle - she is so creative, she'll say "oh this is breastmilk I pumped out of my breasts" or "she had a cleft lip so she can't breastfeed" or "I'm just babysitting so the mummy pumped some out of her breasts for me to feed the baby with" etc. :D Me so proud of her.
I did have one woman get all shocked and tell me off when Vallerie started BFing her dolls. "That's disgusting" were her exact words. Not a friend of mine anymore. *inserts dusting of hands emoticon*

that is so cute. my neice (31/2) was watching a friend breastfeed her 9 month old dd. she was so fasinated (she was a bottle baby since birth). if should could have got any closer she would have. she was actually moving the baby to get a better look. we put a stop to that part right away by telling her she could watch bubby having her milk but she can't touch her.
later she wanted her milk from a boobie not her bottle.

My mum told me that when I was about 3 or 4 we visited someone whose dog had just had puppies... Apparantly I picked up one of the puppies and tried to BFed it  .
Funny thing is, I was a bottlefed baby... I picked up this fabulous idea from a dog .

Ahh but then there would be fewer accessories for you to purchase (hmmm - very much like IRL :D)
Draughty, that story is just lovely...what cuties.

My DS1 used to 'bestfeed' his teddy too every time I breastfeed the baby.
Up went the shirt for teddy to feed :D I loved it - it was so cute.

I find that children have a natural fascination with breastfeeding - on occasions when I have breastfed DD when there are other children around (male or female, and primary school aged), I find that they often want to sit and watch what you're doing, and sometimes even ask questions. I love the opportunity to plant the 'breasfeeding seed' in these fertile young minds.

 Too cute!! I agree baby dolls should not come with bottles not all of them anyway.. My dd when I had ds would always ask to booby feed him after I had and we always let her. Sometimes she would tell me to bring him to her if he was really crying so she could feed him..
I think it is beautiful as well oh so natural the way it should be!!

Maybe they could bring out another line of dolls that come with their own boob  ! I bet that would cause a stir!!!
That's sad and funny at the same time. I think the idea is hilarious, but sadly enough, I'm sure there would be people who would find it objectionable...
What a crazy world we live in.
Draught, your story has reminded me about a comment one of my friends sons made to me whilst he was watching me feed dd. He would have been about 4, and being a breastfeed baby he knew all about it. He sat watching me with intent...then just out of the blue said, "Baby is getting milk from your boobies, cause thats where babies get their milk from...from their mums." I thought he was so sweet....
It is just as important to educate future fathers....they are an invaluable support network.
That is a lovely story, can just imagine how funny and cute it would of been, well done I say for passing the message on!

 That's increddible!! The nerve!! Disgusting?! What the?!
Wonder what she'd think of my 2 yo son breastfeeding his doll?! :p
He takes the job of feeding his 'bubby' pretty seriously (and thinks he's pretty good at it too :D ) and if he cared what anyone thought (he doesn't!) I don't think he'd take to kindly to her attidude!

Oh that is sooooooo cute!!!! I will pass that on to a good friend of mine she will like that!!! LOL
Thanks everyone!
I also have a friend whose son would "breastfeed" his bear while I was feeding DD2 - when his father asked him what he was doing he responded "feeding teddy". When asked what he was feeding him he proudly said "apple" - we decided to leave that one alone as his father was doing his best not to collapse laughing as it was! I still think that it is lovely to know that we influence the next generation in such a positive way - no fuss, no big deal, just the norm.
