View Full Version : Do your Children wear socks to bed?
Do your children wear socks to bed in the colder weather?
I do put socks on Samuels feet as i feel his feet will get cold... he often gets out of his covers....but Dh is always saying he should be "sockless" let the feet breathe etc etc
Whats your thoughts?
I did when Andrew was younger. Then he leartn how to pull them off, and ever since, I've made sure he's in onesies for bed. Much easier!
Not sure about the breathing issue. But I know I dont like wearing socks to bed, makes me feel confined. So I dunno really.
Not much help eh? :o

I voted sometimes...if its a fairly cold night then yes as peter kicks his blanket off normally, but he's also one who can get warm quite easily and i find alot of the times if he has socks on in bed he sweats alot....So for me sometimes :D
Eloise wears socks to bed... not in the warmer weather though. The few times I've not put socks on her little feet are icecubes in the morning!
I'm with you though Noo - I can't stand wearing socks to bed myself, I can't breathe, it feels like I've got a straightjacket on!
Another one here, for sometimes, when its really cold, although DS1 does take them off a lot  . But I love having socks on my feet during the cold weather, espcially if I have to get up a million times during the night :D

I used to but E has been suffering terribly with eczema lately and the doc said I was over dressing him at night so the socks had to go - but he is in a sleeping bad so that keeps his tootsies warm. But - he wears long socks on his hands to keep them warm!

nope.... dd wears an all in one suit
Cobey only wears onesies.. but I'd put socks on him if it were cold.
I DO wear socks to bed when I'm cold (I have an assortment of grippy socks for this purpose)
On really cold nights I wear 2 lots of socks.

DS normally wears the little pjs that have the feet in them (soooo cute)...however, if his mum has been slack with the washing :p ....he will wear socks with his normal pjs
we are in QLD and even now I would still put sock on him
although....he doesn't sleep with any covers...he just won't do it

Sometimes
My Grandmother made them knitted bed socks....which people have worn for years, maybe they breathe a bit better than normal socks?? Not sure if it matters though.

awww my gran used to make us bedsocks too, they were grouse!!!
I voted no. Curtis wears an all-in-one suit sometimes, but mostly he wears: a night nappy, with a pair of longies over the top, with a longsleeved body suit over the top of them. No socks. Vallerie just wears flannellette or fleecy jarmies. I hate wearing socks to bed, my feet get way too hot. The kids beds have enough bedding on them, and so I have never seen the need to put socks on them.

DD either wears a pjs with feet or a 'bonds' type suit. She also wears a sleeping bag if the weather is cool.

only if its reeeally cold, as i find the boys get overheated....
i only wear them when its freezing cold & have to get up too... i usually kick them off after a couple of hours tho... i also find them too constricting - im a hang my feet out from under the blankets girl:p

Yep, ds#1 insists on wearing socks to bed and just recently shoes also but somehow he ends up starkers in the morning with just his shoes and his pj top on  Ds#2 i usually put socks on when i take him to bed but they are usually nowhere to be found in the morning lol, sometimes depending on how cold it is i don't out socks on ds#2 though.

DS and DSS sometimes do - depends on how cold it is as to whether i tell them they have to, or if they ask they can as its there feet.. if they want to keep them on they're probably cold :)
DD1 never does - pulls them off.. but sleeps in wondersuits a lot of the time
and DD2 sleeps in wondersuits or other all in ones every night :)

Both my girls wear socks to bed at night. When they were tiny bubs I used to put mittens on their hands as well.

DD wears socks...for sure.
In Winter (on hte very cold nights), she'll wear a nappy, socks, a singlet, a jumpsuit and then a big fleecy jumpsuit over the top. If she doesn't wear socks, her feet are FREEZING.
I usually check on her a few times a night before I go to bed, to fix up her covers...but I can't check her all night long, so I just put socks on her so if she DOES kick off her blankets (and she usually does), she won't be AS cold.
In Summer, she just wears a nappy and singlet (when it's really hot).
I have a heater in DD's room, but I'm scared of using it (I have a fear that it will blow-up and she'll burn to death...irrational fear, but a fear all the same).
I imagine socks breathe...so long as they're cotton socks they should be fine. You won't get any sort of tinea or anything with cotton socks...so I think your hubby is just making up stuff.
I don't like wearing socks in bed...I usually like to dangle my feet out of the blanket (they get too hot). When I share a bed with DP, it's REALLY toasty...but if he's not in there, it's just my own body heat. I figure it's the same with DD...she's only got her own body heat working for her...so socks are a must for her!
I put sometimes, usually Jacob wears the bonds wondersuits. If its very cold i'll put him in trackies and a jumper with socks :)

Nope.
We cosleep and DS is always snuggled up close to me all night. He always kicks the socks off so I save himself from the effort.
Liam s very prone to heat rash and the doctor said most babies are overdessed and its best to not do that, which makes him even more rashy.
wens its cold then yes but if its quite warm then no

I put socks on DS - his feet are always cold. Sometimes I put socks on under his jumpsuit so he has twice the warmth!

DD has poor circulation like me and never sleeps under her covers, so socks are a must.
Jess wears onies with a sleeping bag over the top so not really wear socks depending if we forget to take her socks off before bed

I voted sometimes, as I only put sock's on them during winter.
I've never really thought about their feet having to breath  , I suppose it doesn't matter as long as their feet get some air time..........

Both my kiddies wear all in ones to bed so that they cant pull the socks off. Otherwise their feet freeze!!
Their feet get plenty of time to breath during the day. :)

Yep- it's pretty hard to have hot feet in winter so I always stick em on, or put DS to sleep in an all-in-one suit.

No, I have enough trouble getting my 13 month old DS to leave his blanket on without him waking up grumpy when I put it on him, let alone socks.....
