and I am after some advice on how to stop him as I don't want him to fall.

He has known how to do this for a while, but today he was doing it all the time and laughing about it and showing off. Then he stands up and jumps and tries to get down head first, he is going to give me a heart attack and I have to constantly tell him 'no' and move him, even when I distract him with things on the ground, he's straight back there again

Any advice??

I don't have much advice, but I do know exactly how you are feeling! My 14mo DD2 just loves climbing onto our lowline coffee table, usually she just sits and smiles at me knowing that she isn't meant to be on there, but today she started to stand and bop around, giggling and laughing at me. I just keep telling her no  and to get down. Luckily she knows how to climb down by reversing off on her tummy IYKWIM, not that she really listens to me when I ask her to get down though. I usually calmly take her off the table because if I make too big of a fuss then she just gets overly excited and almost tumbles off the table on my way to her. I'm hoping it's just a stage and she'll get over this fascination shortly. :fingerscrossed:

That is my worry also, I don't want to shout and him and scare him so he falls off. He knows how to climb down cos he has done it, but sometimes he forgets and tries to climb down head first. We have a step that goes down into the laundry so we always have to make sure the door is closed now cos he might fall.

I was just thinking that maybe we can get him some sort of climbing thing, not sure what though, for his age so that way he won't clmb the couch, I dunno. I have a feeling I can't really stop this new skill of his.

My dd started climbing in the ottoman as it was slightly lower than couch at 7 months, so I packed it up in the spare room at 8 months she graduated to the couch! She fell of a few times but now she is 12 months she can climb off safely and has been for about a month or two!!
So no words of advice just that he will soon learn how to get down!!
Good luck!

I don't think you can stop them learning to climb up- my 15mnths old LOVES to be up on the couch...

BUT you can teach him to get *down* safely (or if he already knows how, just keep encouraging him).... I just make sure I guide H down the right way as much as I can, and now he rarely falls....

And he does fall sometimes- but a few tears, and a bit of a bump on the head, he is all better after a few minutes, and it teaches him to be more careful next time!!

I think that is the problem, I am like one of those helicopter parents always around so he won't fall, but might need him to just so he learns, though I am sure he'd be back up there again in no time. He also walks on the couch too and gets too close to the edge.

This lot do the same, climb everything they can.

There is nothing i can do to stop them. All i do is tell them to sit on their bottoms before they fall, 9/10 they will sit & than get down.
