How do you toilet train a boy?
I have had 3 girls, and they're easy. But what do you do with a boy?
I have asked his kindy Director, and she says to sit him down, and wait and see. But my MIL says you have to teach them to stand right from the beginning.
He wants to go to the toilet. Jack is 2 and a half, and pretty much ready to go.
How have others "done"it?
You can TRY sitting him on the loo/potty, we did that with DS1 at first because he was too scared to go on the BIG toilet(he used the potty instead). Once his confidence grew, the transition to standing up was easy.
If the weather is nice, let him run around with no pants on outside, little boys LOVE to pee in the garden LOL. But could be a good way to start off with peeing standing up.
Yes i did the sit down one aswell, then he gets used to doing a number 2..on the toilet aswell in that postion, also you dont get pee all over the toilet & floor!...err mind you my ds is 7 and he still manages 2!..men:rolleyes:
When he is older then introduce standing...
hope that helps

Okay, for starters, don't listen to your mother in law unless you want to be cleaning pee off your walls and floor. I didn't teach DS to pee standing up for 18mths, even then he still missed.
Teach him sitting down, might pay to teach him to hold his winky down too just to make sure it all goes in the toilet.

My son started toilet training at around 2 1/4. He's now 3 1/2 and it's only the last few months we've been showing him how to pee standing up. Some do both from the start and some don't. I just felt it would lessen the confusion for him to do the whole lot sitting to start with.
BTW - I put a ping pong ball in the toilet, which helps with his aim and since they don't flush ... they're the toileting aid that keeps on goin'.
I also taught my son to shake it before he put it back in his undies. His father didn't think wet patches was a big deal!
DS pees sitting down....when he has that mastered, then DH can teach him how to pee standing up.
That will also be the day when DH takes over the cleaning of the toilet floor!
We have a 20c piece in our toilet to aim at....also doesnt flush, and was added to the loo by accident by DS who was sitting on the loo at the time and dropped it. There aint no way I'm fishing it out!

coby has been familiar with the potty since he could sit up.. every nappy change i sat him on the potty and most times he did a wee/poo...
i think sitting down is a great place to start... so then he wees and poos... in the same position... otherwise he might forget to poo while he stands up to wee... or thinks he needs to poo then sits down and then stands up to wee afterwards.. might get a bit confusing.. although coby is still young (17 months) so maybe older boys understand
anyway coby has just started an interest in standing up to wee, (standing against the bath/coffee tabe.. you name it to pee!!) however he is too small for the toilet.. and even when i try to get him to stand on a stool he cant hold his doodle to pee... so we end up with it everywhere!!!
the joys of little boys!!

We have 2 boys and they both sat first and then learned to stand up. I would just say go with what they are comfortable with, both my boys wanted to sit first and then when they were ready they asked if they could stand and I then past them over to DH for that.
Good luck and have fun.

If it were me i would teach him to use the potty first and have him tuck his little willy down between his legs when he pee's then when he's abit older and more confident up to the big toilet.
