I find mini muffins popular. You can grate in some pear or apple. They don't even realize its there.

I have a fussy 8 yr old that drives me nuts. He also likes popcorn, occasionly he will eat a wrap with lettuce and ham. He loves cream cheese on anything. He does eat some fruit though so that makes it a little easier.

I will be watching this thread for other suggestions.

I pack a variety of the following for my son - hes picky with fruit too which is most annoying.

Sandwiches - I alternate the breads with multigrain, white, pita pockets, wraps, crisp breads etc to keep it interesting - with any of the fillings below

: Shredded chicken, mayo, grated carrot and grated cheese
: Ham, cheese and pickles(or relish)
: Cheese and pickles(or relish)
: Vegemite and grated cheese
: Grated carrot, grated cheese and mayo
: Honey and peanut butter
: Jam and peanut butter
: Cold sausages and sauce
: Cold rissoles and sauce
I usually do one plain sandwich, ie: jam and a more interesting one.

For fruit

: Packets of sultanas and peach (they have a few combinations)
: Splurges (not sure of the name - they are packets of pureed fruit in the museli bar aisle)
: Single serve fruits in juice - tinned fruit aisle.
: Baked fruit bars (the ones with dough around them - not the fruit sticks)

Miscellaneous things

: Crackers and cheese
: Crackers and dip (I buy tubs of dip and put some into smaller containers)
: Plain salted popcorn (i do it at home)
: Museli bars
: Ot Bars
: Muffins
: Pikelets
: Plain chips

I cant think of anything else at the moment

~ small tins of baked beans/spag
~ cold quiche (or similar)
~ mixture of dried fruit/nuts (if the school allows nuts of course)
~ fruit or vege muffins
~ Jelly with chunks of fruit mixed in...if you make the jelly from a packet just use less water so it sets firmer, I think I used 3/4 of what the pack said last time I made jelly for a picnic.

Can't think of anything else...my brain is not working tonight...

What are you giving him to drink? I know my nephew (6yrs) will not touch his lunch if his drink bottle, which is rather large, is full of juice, so now he gets a popper and his drink bottle full of water.

Although I'm not vegan, my favourite website is Vegan Lunch Box at http://veganlunchbox.blogspot.com/. You will have to look through the archives.

There are some brilliant ideas here that can easily be adapted to be non-vegan or vegetarian.

I can only hope to put together such excellent lunch boxes when my DS is old enough to go to school!

One of the best ideas I've seen (used to be a teacher) was a mum who bought mini cookie cutters and used them to make mini sandwiches! She'd make a plain old vegemite sandwhich, then used the mini cookie cutters and cut out hearts, stars, so the child had cute little mini sandwiches in interesting shapes. They LOVED it!!

Also, try to avoid Nutrigrain as it is one of the most unhealthy cereals around. It gets broken down by the body very quickly and leaves your child hungry & lethargic much quicker.
Love,
Nan. xx
