/My 5month old dd has just been diagnosed with eczema. I have just purchased moo goo but have a few questions:

how long should i wait for the results of a product patch test?
how long does it take for a trigger factor to have an effect?
how long does it take for a dietary trigger in my breast milk to show, ie time from my eating it to time it affects dd?
what product recommendations do you have for non-treatment items, eg nappies, wipes, washing powder, etc.
thats all for now - but i'm sure there will be more. thanks for any help!

the only one I can help with is the last one :)
we use cloth nappies, and cloth wipes (with plain warm water) and have a fair bit of 'nakey time'
we wash all our clothes with only 1/4 of the suggested amount of detergent, and do a canestan/woolwash rinse for nappies/wipes/soiled clothes.
hope things improve!

How long should I wait for the results of a product patch test? A severe reaction is pretty fast, a lesser reaction can be anywhere up to 24hours.

How long does it take for a dietary trigger in my breast milk to show, ie time from my eating it to time it affects dd? Generally anything you eat will enter you bloodstream and therefore your milk within about 6 hours of eating it (time it takes to start to digest basically),so usually the next feed is the delivery. But it depends on what reaction you are looking for in bubs, a digestive reaction in bubs is almost immediate, and things like dairy intolerance will come out in the stools the next one, a skin condition like eczema can be on ongoing association. That's what it was like for my brother, the small mistakenly taken amounts didn't effect him, but an ongoing consumption did, so mum had to have an zero dairy diet, he still continued to have eczema just not as severe.

What product recommendations do you have for non-treatment items, eg nappies, wipes, washing powder, etc? We use Lux flakes, dissolved in hot water before adding to the wash, and vinegar used on the rinse cycle, vinegar helps to remove the smaller traces of detergent in the fabric, is also a great fabric softner. We use combination of disposable and cloth, I've found no different in either though, and just terry towel clothes and water. Bath at the moment we use Deermaveen oat bath oil, and found curash oat shampoo/conditioner to be okay. Be wary of items that bubs comes in contact with such as carpet, bunny rugs and mats, even their carseats.

l feel for you and remember all the trying and testing of new products. My Ds was 8 weeks when his eczeme started. l wasnt breastfeeding so dont know how much help l can be with that l know there are certain foods you should avoid eating so not to pass it on to bubs but what may help is Eczeme Shield made from Ethical Nutrients it is a powder form that you would take and would come trhu to bib in breast milk l added it to my sons bottle once a day. l also used moo goo at every nappy changed till his shin improved (about 2 months) now l only use it after babth (he is 17 months) l also only use goats milk to wash him. His skin is now so beautiful and most days eczema free. l use to use huggies nappies but switched to the Aldi brand and also use the aldi blue packet of wipes in the washing machine l use Hurricane, nappy san and just the coles fabric softner l use to use the flakes. Hope some of this helps just remeber heater off when bub goes to bed and keep door open no lambs wool and no jumpers but lm sure your bubs skin will improve soon its all just trial and earer

At least 12 hours i would think. Heard heaps of good things about moo goo, but me and DS are allergic to it, makes us way worse, same with goats milk soaps.

how long does it take for a trigger factor to have an effect?

Sometimes there isn't a trigger. But within 12 hours usually. Sometimes eczema just happens no explanation, i get dermatitis which is atopic (allergic)

Best thing to do is have a food diary, write down everything you consume, after a month you will be able to pick the pattern, its often dairy and citus that flares eczema. I am allergic to chocolate and oranges.

what product recommendations do you have for non-treatment items, eg nappies, wipes, washing powder, etc.

We use amolin liquid to wash clothes at half recommended dose. I also double rinse DS's clothes as he reacts to washing powders/soaps etc. Highly recommend that you wash bubs sheets with no laundry liquid but add in 1/2 cup of vinegar into the rinse cycle to strip the sheets of laundry powder residue.

Nappies are trail and error and just a wet washer or fragrance free wipe.

Eczema is all about trial and error, something that works one week wont work the next. I am forever changing creams, soaps, moisturisers as e skin seems to build up a resistance to stuff.

Currently we use soapfree soap bars, dermaveen moisturiser. Flare up oil if we have a flare.

Sorbelene cream is too thick and makes me itch. But is ok to use as a soap substitute.

Cotton is by far the best fabric, i am allergic to wool and it causes me to itch dreadfully.

Never let bub get to hot or to cold. Hot makes eczema flare, cold makes skin dry out and itch.
