hey everyone!

i dont know the lingo on this as yet (my first time :) )

i have a 2.5 year old son Oliver and a 4 month old son Bailey, Bailey is a preemie baby he was born at 34+5 weeks gestation and we had a trip to Brisbane for further treatment.

i am posting on here as we recently moved from Rocky to Gracemere (1 week before Bailey was born)

most my friends dont have children which makes it very difficult for me as they are always asking me to go out for coffee or lunch but with 2 babies en tow this is not enjoyable for my friends, and me of course.

i am wanting to get out of the house! i take the boys to the zoo and parks but it gets a bit lonely on my own.

any Gracemere mums out there? i would love to meet up for a play date.

I'm not sure if you got my PM or not. Are you on FB? What would I find you under? Might be easier to keep in touch that way.

Hi Melissa,

I've recently met some lovely ladies in Gracemere. We try to meet at least weekly at each others houses or sometimes at the botanical gardens playground in Rocky or Crazy Joker, or wherever really.

There is also a playgroup called Funky Monkeys that runs every Friday from 9.30 - 11.30 at the Gracemere Community Hall on Barry Street. First 2 visits are free to see if you like it and then it is $3/visit. It doesn't run during school holidays. The morning starts with craft activities, then morning tea (you take morning tea for your child/ren but the mums take it in turns to make morning tea for other mums) and then play time. You must make contact with the Funky Monkeys before attending as numbers are limited due to the size of the building we use.

I'm an older mum with a 2 year old daughter. The group of ladies I met all have girls except one who has an 11 week old boy so it would be nice to have more boys!

If you'd like to join us at any time, you can email me at odieonekenobe@hotmail.com

Cheers,
Donna

OMG!!! Finally I have found some other mums in the same boat as me.

I've lived in Gracemere for 10 months and have a little boy whose just turned 2. He goes to Skippys child care. I'm desperately wanting to meet some gals to have coffee with and a chat. Hubby works away in mines. All my family and friends are in Country Vic, Melbourne and Townsville.

Please let me know of any get-togethers coming up in Gracemere or Rocky.

I will endeavor to get to the next Community Centre Friday thing too. :)

Just a note for any potential new members at the Friday "Funky Monkey's Playgroup". There are currently no vacancies but if you are interested you can go on a waiting list. Just check the Playgroup Queensland website periodically and you can find out if there are vacancies or what the contact details are. Otherwise let me know and I'll put you on the waiting list.

Cheers!

Hi Bron

There's a few things to choose from in Gracemere, there's another playgroup on a Monday at the Waraburra State School (Pitty the Fri is full as it's my pick out of the 2). Also a Mainly music group in Kabra on Tues 9.30at the community hall.
And every now and then I go to the Rock Pools in Rocky with some mum's you're welcome to join us. Did you see the post from Erin giving her face book link? that's how I found it.
I'm going to the Mainly Music group on Tues. If you want to come along I can look out for you and meet. :smiliedance:

Cheers Melissa

Good Morning Ladies, We have been in Gracemere for 8 weeks. I am 35yr young ;) mum and have 4 kids, 2 & 3 yr old sons, 9 & 11yr old daughters. I have a couple of friends in the area but they have no children and work full time. Hubby works away 7 & 7 in the mines. The boys go to Le Smiley's Childcare every Thursday, 1 daughter goes to Waraburra SS and the other goes to The Hall SS. My boys are extremely busy little people, more than the girls ever were and so find it really hard to get out and meet people. They get into absolutely everything so I find it easier to stay home but find myself getting sad about being here and no one to chat to. Would love to meet some mum's in the area and hopefully make some new friends as we plan on being in the area for a long time to come. Also, I can see there are a couple of playgroups in Gracemere I will try to get to. Thanks, and hope to catch up with someone soon. Mystie :goodvibes:

Great to hear your story. What a fantastic family you have. My little boy is 2 an crazy enough as he is, let alone to have 2 of similar age! We have a great Playgroup on Facebook if you are on there? I only joined a few months ago. Most of the mums meet on Thurs but as my son is also in childcare Thurs I sometimes go without him. Wednesday's are good for me if you want to catch up. Happy to go with whatever is easier for you if that means meeting at a park or at your place. My hubby works away too 4/4. Cheers Bron. PS let me know if you're in Fb and I'll join you to our group.

Hey girls.

We recently moved up from Adelaide and are looking for somewhere to live. We are considering Rocky but I've heard it's 'dodgy'?! I don't really know.. We are temporarily staying with friends in Yeppoon but hubby hates the commute to work.

Have seen there are some nice houses in Gracemere. How far is it from Rocky and what's it like there? I'd love to meet up with some of you :)

Hi Ladies
Gracemere does have lots of new houses. Just be choosy where you pick a house because some of the areas are nicer than others. Even some streets with nice-ish houses are turning into neighbourhood slums. Also, if you like your piece and quiet then I dont think Gracemere is for you. The houses are getting piled in on top of one another so you can hear the next door neighbours talking inside their house. Not to say the least. LOL. And the amount of dogs is irritating. Dont live on a main road (eg Lucas St) because of all the construction the trucks going up and down these streets make it very loud.
We have a private Playgroup on FB and we meet up once a week when we can. If you want to look me up I can then add you to the Playgroup.. There is also Gracemere Mums site.
Cheers Bronwyn Macchia

Hi Ladies,
Like Bron Says there are some dodgie parts and dodgie people. We're in a good street, with lots of families and no shortage of kids out playing with my kids. Look for the side streets not main Roads like Lilly Pilly Rd or Lucas St.

Renee I also have 2 older kids next month they'll be 8 & 10 and a little bub 16 months (All boys) and we moved our family of 5 from NZ in Jan - it is difficult and takes a while to adjust but you're doing the right thing by hooking up with groups. All the Mum's here are not from here and all miss their own home towns and family and friends so we're ALL in the same boat. Just give it time, keep in the front of your mind 'WHY' you're doing it and stay positive. Hope to meet you both soon.
Also try the Funky Monkeys playgroup on Fridays on Barry St at the Community Hall 9.30
Cheers :cheerleader1:Melissa

Hey lilmumma83 and spideysmummy

I agree with Bron on what she says about Gracemere. It's getting very crowded! We rented there for 6 months in the Gracemere Heights estate, before deciding where we wanted to buy, and we decided Gracemere wasn't for us. Although we made some good friends there, we didn't like living there. There are soooo many dogs, which is so annoying. It was so noisy. And some of the areas around that estate are quite dodgy....A lot of the streets in the Gracemere heights estate, all the houses look the same. we moved into a new house and the finish was shocking. They are built so fast because demand is high, and it reflects on the quality. So many things went wrong with the house, so choose your house carefully! And we didn't like the drive into town every day. Traffic is quite bad first thing in the morning and sometimes it would take DF or I (if we had swimming first thing) 45 mins to get into town.

in January, we moved to The Range area on the Southside of Rocky, and we LOVE it here. Can't recommend it enough. Close enough to everything too. Most of the houses are old Queenslander houses and they are just stunning.
