View Full Version : Problem with Fruit Salad Nappy
Ok so I got my Fruit Salad Nappy today. I tried it on straight away as it looked very small and it barely covers her bottom (she is only 6 months old and just under 7kgs)....she actually then did a wee as soon as it was put on her and it leaked everywhere! Just wondering...have I done something wrong, put it on wrong or other? I realise that they are supposed to be trim but don't know how to stop the leaking. Any advice would be appreciated...I've also emailed them to see what I can do.....
Is this the g-string version of cloth nappy?? lol:p

Did you wash it before putting it on? I don't have any Fruit Salads but I assume they are hemp? Hemp needs a good few washes before it becomes really absorbent.
It's a pocket Queenie.
What are you stuffing it with? Also when you put it on you have to make sure all the suedecloth is right the way in. Can't think of anything else to ask right now. I haven't had any problems with leaks before (besides when she slept in it for ages). :detective:

oh :o  (there goes my nappy-aholic reputation....)
please disregard my earlier post :D
I put the insert that it came with in...I think its hemp although it does look different from my hemparoos. It would fit it if I just folded it in 3, I had to fold in 4....but aside from the stuffing issue....her bottom hung out, didnt hug the tops of her legs...it just didnt cover her lil toosh! She doesnt had a big toosh or anything...lol...maybe it has been sewn wrong?? The suedecloth is tight in the crotch and the PUL is much baggier...I must be doing something wrong but TBH it really looks teeny tiny:confused:
ahhh, but Queenie, the inserts could have been brand new hemp :D I don't have any Fruit Salad Nappies (have seen them irl though) and they are very trim. They remind me of my Swaddlebees which were a bit of a pain to start off with.
If you are using hemp as an insert, make sure it's really well washed and I'd also suggest adding a thin layer of fast absorbing material such as microfibre because hemp can hold a lot of moisture but doesn't necessarily absorb it quickly. DS does super wees and if it goes straight onto hemp, it tends to bead at first and run off before absorbing into the fabric. Does that make sense???
Also, with such a narrow crotch area, make sure you are stuffing correctly eg. the insert is flat and goes all the way to the sides without bunching it up and causing the inner layer to become exposed and touch any clothing. And the only other thing I can think of is that there may have been some residual manufacturing oils etc on the inner layer causing it to repel which would not have been washed out yet.
Anyway, I hope you get it sorted :) Trim pockets can be a wonderful asset to have in your stash once you work out the stuffing.

Could be that you are overstuffing them or that the insert is getting caught i found i had this problem with my Swaddlebees they are very trim also & if the insert got caught somewhere it meant they leaked !
Also if you are using a hemp insert it could be that they havent been washed enough before use otherwise i would go with what tickle said that the suede cloth may be rolling outwards causing them to wick.
Like with any nappy it can take time to get it to "work" they are a great nappy though being trim you dont have to worry about bulkiness with clothes !
Good luck :)
What size have you got? This is my 7kg DD in a mediumone (http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i212/happy_lady/DSCF0010.jpg). She's a chubby four month old though. The hemp will need a good few washes until it becomes really effective too.
tickle, they didnt come in sizes as far as I knew they were one size. The one on you DD looks much bigger than mine:confused: mine was from www.fruitsaladnappies.com I'm just more concerned about the size of it, I know it hadn't been washed or anything as I just tried it on her but the fact that her little cheeks hung out wasnt a very positive sign! I'll give it another go when it dries
Oops, silly me. :o The sizing range that they fit is what I would call a medium and your DD should certainly fit into it. See how you go again when it dries stuffing it really carefully. Let us know how it goes.:)
Fruit Salads are very bewtiful but hard to get right because they are so trim i would consider them a bit of a challenge! You really need to be careful not to over stuff these. I'd try again as they are worth it if you can get it right although perhaps the shape just doesn't fit your little one.
Tickle- i've got that one too, thought you had stolen my kid!

See!
My Fruit Salad still sucks! lol....I can't even get my hand in the damn thing to stuff it properly and I promise I don't have a big hand! I washed it and tried it on DD again and it just doesnt cut it....well it does cut it (her bottom that is!) I couldnt leave it on her, I took it off in disgust, I was too scared to leave it on her soooooo anyone want to buy one girlie fruit salad, never actually worn????
Is it really, really girly? If not i could swap you something
Can you send it back? I was looking at these but I am a rookie so I don't want to have any hassles with them.
can't usually return nappies once they have been washed
Ummmm yes rather girlie! lol Unless your little man wants white with pink hearts and pink touchtape.....:D
Ummm, maybe that would be pushing it! I'm sure someone will want it or swap you, try Tickle she has a girl.
