Heya :wave:I am thinking of taking my daughter whos 16 months to a dermatologist as her eczema isnt clearing up..Ive got it somewhat under control but as soon as she wears shorts/nappy changing time she just sits there and scratches the backs of her knees and back :( I dont want to spend another summer keeping her dressed in long pants. Are they worth seeing? Or will they tell me to do what Im already doing...Im using dermeze and a tiny bit of cortizone 1% on the flare up bits and bathing her in hamiltons bath oil. I am so sick of spending $$ on products.

In my book, yes! We've been seeing one for all the kids for just over 12 months, his worth his weight in gold.
His helped with birthmarks & eczema.
They may give you script only treatment.
Waiting list for public & private is crazy long tho.

I haven't personally had to go, we have a gp who decided to specialise in skin problems years ago and has treated my acne and our eczema very well.
You will never know if you never give it a try I suppose. It may cost you a bit more in the short term but you may find a routine that works better for your little girl. Sometimes unfortunately eczema is an ongoing thing.
Just a quick question though, are you using a hydrocortisone or a corticosteriod cream?

Ive been using dermaid soft 1% on the red itchy spots which is a hydrocortisone. Id rather not use it at all but yeh not much else is working at the moment...

Okay, I just asked cause usually if a hydrocortisone is not getting rid of the stubborn patches the next step is to try a topical corticosteroid like Elocon or Aristocort (there are heaps available), they only have to start on a lose mg one like .1% and see if it shifts it. Its probably the next thing a dermo would try and you can get it on script from a gp anyway. You don't have to use it permanently, only for a few days, usually twice a day, maximum a week and you may find once it clears it up, it may not come back for some time or at all and you can go back to just a moisturising program.
