cracked nipple

I discovered this morning one of my nipples is cracked:thumbsdown: What do I do?? I never had this happen when I was feeding ds so am not sure! I expressed some colostrum onto it and let it air dry. Is there anything else I can/should do??? Why would this happen when I'm not evenn feeding yet?

Is it painful at all, Jem? Probably the best thing would be to put some Lansinoh on it. You can but little tubes of it from the chemist. I haven't ever needed it until yesterday as my 8 month old introduced his new tooth to me by biting me:eek: ! Ouch!! Anyway, I have been putting this on and it certainly seems to soothe it a bit.

Maybe a bit of sunshine (if you're game and have the privacy) on it as well as the colostrum. Then start with the Lansinoh along with a bit of manipulation every so often (not too much manipulation though as this can sometimes bring on bub).

i used Lansinoh and the paw paw ointment. Both are great t healing and keeping the skin supple. They are both also okay for bubs to suck on! If it is really bad you might want to consider using a nipple shield for a couple of days too.
