View Full Version : Terribly windy baby - HELP
My DD has been a windy baby since she was born despite being breastfed, intitially I tried alot of things like infacol, infants friend etc including changing my diet then kid of gave up as nothing was working and it seemed to bother her less as she got older.
She's now just over 6 months old and we started solids (fruits & veggies) a month ago and we giving her plenty of water and breastfeeds but she had terrible constipation for the last two weeks and we tried coloxly and the doctor recommended lactulose which didnt work so in the end we gave her a suppository which worked for the poop but she still has terrible wind and it keeps waking her up crying and it takes ages to settle her only to have her up again an hour later. I know its the wind bothering her because she kicks her legs all and thrashes about all night and she usually wakes up just before or after she farts!
I've tried evrything I could - tummy massage, infants friend, infacol, gripe water, brauer stomach calm and even a weak concoction of pepperming, chamomile and fennel. I even tried changing her diet, not feeding her after 2pm but no luck so far and I'm exhausted and at my wits end :crying: now and any advice would be very welcome!

You poor thing, it is so tough when they have bad wind! My 4mth old suffered from terrible wind and colic until she was about 8 weeks old. We used basically everything you have. I found that the Infacol was helpful and I also used a mixture called 'Marina Infant Mixture' which was recommended to me by my GP. Its prob very similar to the Infant's friend but I did find that it helped to break down the wind that would get trapped so that she could fart it out. You just buy it from them chemise. I would also do the bicycle leg pumping with her after every feed which sometimes helped. I think the biggest god send was this rocker/cradle chair I bought which has an inclined seat built into it. It propt her up so she wasnt getting all the wind pains like was was when she was laying flat. It really helped her (and me) have a good nights sleep. I still use this for her to sleep in now when I need to and it is a god send. Its made by fisher price and its called the Newborn Rock and Play Sleeper. I think you can use it till they are about 12kgs... You might need to double check that tho.
Good luck and I hope everything starts getting better for you soon :)
Thanks ekearny I might try the Marina mixture, I have tried the cycling movements and she does them by herself - she kicks so much all day and night poor thing is so uncomfortable! I do have a baby bouncer as well as a swing for her although she'll only sit in them for a short time and she's never been the best sleeper at the best of times!
Has anyone tried Donnalix for wind??
Thanks Mabelline, might ask the doc about the breastfeeding. As for the constipation we tried prune juice, pears, coloxyl, and lactulose before we ended up resorting to suppositories which worked! So technically she isn't constipated now but the wind still making her cry.
I've been chasing up Donnalix and called heaps of chemists and all they say is how good it is but they cant seem to get any grrrrr...:hair:

You could try http://parkes.pharmacy4u.com.au/product/100650
but as far as I'm aware Donnalix is a discontinued product?? I did see it at a pharmacy recently however - maybe old stock? Anyway, if you're desperate I could always try looking it up and post it to you. Just PM if you want.
Good luck, I know from first hand experience how terribly frustrating it is having to watch your LO suffer from wind pain! :crying:
Thanks Surfergal I asked a compounding chemist if they could make me up Donnalix and he said he had tried before but was having issues stablizing the mixture so am on the lookout for a compounding chemist Perth who can make it!:fingerscrossed:
