What is the normal weight for a 2 year old. My son is a big boy - always has been (was small born though). He is just under 2 and weighs just over 16 kg.
He isn't a huge eater - very fussy though. He won't eat vegies and can't eat dairy products. He is very active = running nonstop. Everyone said he would lose weight when he starts walking but it just isn't going anywhere. He is already in a size 3. He is chubby but not at all fat. I'm not overly concerned just more curious as to whats "normal"
My DS is 29 mths and is 15 kilos and is very tall
He is also in a size 3 and has size 10 shoes
The main comments i get are that he is "tall" for his age and i also feel that people think he should be better behaved and talking more because they think he is older than he is iykwim?

My DS1 is tall and 26mths he is 14.6 kgs and size 9 shoes. He was chubby but lost weight when he could walk. We have a Maori background and so I realise he is not going to be a small boy. He is great eater and lactose intolerant, he only really eats a good variety of foods and is very active so I don't tend to worry about him too much.
Maybe give it some time. Check wiht your community health nurse about height to weight ratios and see what you come up with.

Last time I asked a doctor he said he was fine. His weight is out for his height but he doesn't look fat so no worries. He is tall to so carries it well. Size 9 shoe already

My son is 19 months in 1 week - size 3 clothes - size 7-8 shoe...not overly tall...however, he doesn't look "fat" - just well rounded.
He doesn't eat fruit..he is a picky eater....however, he runs & runs & runs & runs & runs....
Your son sounds pretty normal to me....

When I rang to make an appointment for Lukey's 2y/o checkup I jokingly asked our MCHN what weigh bridge she wanted us to meet her at! I wasn't far wrong...Lucas weighed in at 20kg.
I thought I was in for the 'obesity chat' from her but like she said, when he lays on his back you can still see his ribs so there's no need to worry, he's just a big boy. He wears size 4 and has just gone into a size 10 shoe.
I agree with samsmum that when they're bigger people do often expect more from them...I was even going to make a t-shirt for Lucas a while ago saying, "Give me a break...I'm only 2!" ;)

Exactly - same with my little one. He is 26 months, 96cms tall, 16kgs, in size three and size 9 shoes. Everyone seems to think that he is 3 or so. If we go to a restaurant, he is great for a 2yo but people thing he should behaving more like a 3yo iykwim.
Hi Kamaikia I think our boys are around the same age. Nath is 2 at the end of October and dispite being born over 9 pounds he is currently about 11.5kg. Hard to belive concidering he eats 4 wheat bix and a peice of toast for breakfast
I forgot to add he still fits into size 00 (and one 000) shorts. Shirts he needs a 2 for the length

Size ten shoes OMGosh lol i thought my two year old had whoppers lol with a size 8!
Only joking :)
O was big at birth, average- chubby wubby baby, but now his 2 and weighs a decent 14-15kg depending on the day.
He has recently gone through a growth spurt and shot up so looks older too, people do expect more which doesnt help but hey what can you do?!
I guess you need to look at the gene pool they come from, K your very tall so i expect N will be too.Plus add the size of his dad and wa la LOL DH is very built and so is O and im not petite by any means lol so of course our son will be bigger then average.
I was even going to make a t-shirt for Lucas a while ago saying, "Give me a break...I'm only 2!" ;)
I'll put an order in now thanks Mamaduke ;)
oh and in regards to my DS being in a size 10 shoe... DH is a size 14 !! My boys dont have much hope for being "small footed" hehe
do the others with bigger feet have dads with big feet too???

My ds#1 was around 15kg at 2, he will be 3 in about 2 weeks and is 17 kg, 101.5cm tall and wears size 4-5 clothing and size 11 shoes! He has always been a big boy though but the doc says he's perfect and not to worry. He is very slim and muscular though and you can see his ribs and his little tummy muscles when he is standing up lol. My ds#2 however is 19 months, weighs 13kg and a size 6 shoe, and wears size 1-2 clothing, he is fairly short though which makes him look chubby. There is definately a huge size difference between my boys at the same ages, my youngest son is built smaller than my first son (he has small bones just like mummy, but ds#1 is built a bit more like daddy)

Wow, reading these posts makes me realise just how small my dd is. DD is 2 1/2yrs and weighs about 9kg and is only about 78/79cms tall and in a size 4-5 shoe and in clothes anywhere from size 00 - 2. There is nothing wrong with her though, she doesn't stop eating all day long and like all the others, just runs and runs all day long. At least you guys don't have the extra stress of your kids losing too much weight when they are sick, dd was sick for a week not long ago and was refusing to eat for nearly the whole week and lost .5kg in a couple of days, not much I know but is a lot when they don't have any extra weight to loose.
Mamaduke, maybe I need a t-shirt that says 'yes I am 2' as I am constantly asked how old she is because of her talking and she is very very agile on her feet, maybe there's a new business venture for you there:idea:

I've got 2 complete opposites in children - Jesse was 4lb 1oz (4wks prem) and I was sick to death of hearing how tiny he was.
Now I've got the 'he'll be in the ruck' comments with Lukey.
I must say I personally prefer the 'big' comments as the 'little' comments really grated on my nerves - I was doing everything I physically could do get weight on this child, people pointing out the freakin' obvious wasn't helping!!!!
As for the t-shirts...could be! I've also got another one in mind (keeping in the 'baby bonus' theme I saw on another thread)...
"I'm only here 'cause Daddy wanted a plasma!" ;)

Yep I hear yah on that one, another one I'm sick of is "Don't you feed your child?", yeah I just let her starve! Really some people should think before they open their mouths.
wow everone's 2 year olds are making my 2 year old boy a midget lol, I have to take him into get weighed properly but i put him on the scales the other day and at 2years and 2mths he is just under 12.9kg, and he fits a size 6 shoe nicely, although i've got him size 7's cause he's got wide feet
