Hi all

I have poo question. Im a little bit concerned about DS2's poos. He is 11 months old and for the last two days his poos look like they have dirt on them? They are a little bit soft (DS1 or 2 never have solid poos ever) but there seems to be a dirt like grain which I can not attribute to anything his eaten.

It is really hard to wipe of, to the point where he needs to have a shower or bath to get it all off. I know it doesnt seem right so we'll be getting a docs appointment but I wondered if anyone had any ideas?

TIA

Dry bikkes, cereals etc can cause sandy/grainy poo.

I would up bubs water intake too as her poo may be spending to long in her intestines and causing the grainy consistency. Water will help with that.

Might be worthwhile going to a GP though and if she happens to poo again maybe take some in (in a zip lock bag or something)

Other things that can cause sandy poo is gluten intolerance.

Is bub Breast fed or Formula feed?

Thankyou for your response

He is bottle fed, he was breastfed up to 9 months. Ive actually wondered before if he has a gluten intolerance, as he was also very very slow at gaining weight and actually lost weight at some stage. He seems to have caught up a little now, and this was one thing that was suggested

He also seems to get tummy aches quite often which I just attributed to getting used to digesting different things.

He hasnt had any biscuits or cereals recently, has really had a fairly bland diet of late (fruit, veggies, pasta, sandwhiches nothing new for him)

I dont know if its related or not but he could never tolerate rice cereal, would violently throw up for 1/2 and hour around 3 hours after he had it, was also the same with "gold" formulas.

Hmmm

Could also be a cows milk protein intolerance (CMPI) my DD has it pretty badly and i myself never had much dairy in my diet so it did not affect her while i breastfeed, once on formula she again was not to bad but cows milk set her right off, pains in the tummy, hard poo (possibly grainy although i cant say that for certain)

But yep, Gluten intolerance does cause poo problems. And also tummy aches.

Best to go to a GP and maybe get referred to a Pead who specialises in poo :D (or tummy problems anyhow)

My DD almost had to have part of her bowel removed as she had sever impaction so i suggest getting it seen to, even if it turns out to be nothing.
