View Full Version : Sauteed mushrooms?
Ok my DP loves Sauteed Mushrooms, but neither of us are sure of how to Sautee a mushroom?? lol
can anyone help??
i do believe its done in the frying pan... is this right?? with oil or water (dp thinks water, but i dont know)
hiya neeky
I don't know a "proper" recipe for sauteed mushrooms, but I do cook some up to go on top of the occasional steak.
Yes a fry pan and def oil (or butter tastes better). If I'm being healthy I usu do half and half. For a steak I also add some red wine and a tiny dash of wostershire (sp?) sauce for some saltiness.

As X said, do them in a frying pan with a bit of oil and/or butter. I use a medium to high heat but it depends in part on your pan. After a few minutes when they are just starting to soften I liberally grate pepper over top. This helps the "juice" to come out. Salt would do the same thing but we're low-salt people and I love the slight spicyness with pepper.
Alternatives, if you love mushrooms... thread some button mushrooms on to a wooden skewer and grill on the bbq. Or buy the big flat ones and bbq those. Yum.

I just do them in butter!! :chef: Unfortunately my DH hates cooked mushrooms (but will eat them raw), so I don't get to do them often.

Mmmmmm sauteed mushies!!! We are mushroom fanatics here. I always sautee my mushies in olive oil, with a knob of butter. The oil heats up well, and stops the butter from burning. I just use a bit of sea salt and a teeny bit of garlic too. Or I cheat, and chuck the cut up mushies and a knob of butter in a microwave safe bowl, cover it with gladwrap, and stick it on high for 1 1/2 mins! LOL works just as well! Ooh and all purpose spice is great ont hem too, if you aren't up for garlic.
