Hi Ladies,
I am looking at purchasing a vapouriser and a thermometer in the very near future and was wondering if any of you have any that you would or wouldn't recommend? There's just so many available, and I know that you guys would be the experts.
Thanks for you help
In terms of vapourisers- I think they are all much of a muchness - so to speak. We bought the Vicks vapouriser and think its pretty good - it has a night light and automatic cutout switch for when the water runs too low. What kind of thermometers are you talking about? bath ones or bubby ones?? Although on the pricey side- we thought the ear/forehead thermometer pretty good and easy to use........ and as for the bath - cheap and nasty coles one shaped as a submarine - but works a treat and does not have mercury in it - so all the better :)

I have a Braun Thermoscan, and while it is useful, I don't rely on it solely. I bought it because putting the thermometer in the little ones armpit used to completely freak her out. She's 4.5 now, and only just tolerates it now.
The reason I'm not so fussed is that it seems to vary wildly from person to person, and from left to right ear in the same person. When I don't have a fever, there is a 0.6 degree difference between my left and right ears - one ear reading that I do technically have a fever. When my teenage daughter doesn't have a fever, it reads 34.5, but if she has a fever, it will read just above 37 degrees, but an oral digital thermometer will read sometimes up to 40+ 5 seconds later.
If you are going to get one, you need to establish a baseline reading for each person you will use it on, and which ear, too.

Sorry, I was looking at one of the thermometers that you can use on the forehead as well as in the ear (if that's possible). I guess I should have been more specific in my original post. Aardvark, does your's work on baby's forehead too?

No, the one I have is strictly an ear canal one.
Hi there again,
I forgot to tell you that the ear/forehead thermometer is really good and we have found it to be quite accurate. It also talks to you! You can get them from a variety of websites and most big chain chemists will order one in for you if they don't have it in stock :)
