Hi all you cloth nappy experts
I want to know what all the fuss and excitement is over cloth nappies, so i've decided that i'll give it a go and change dakota (3.5 months) to clothies.
I like the looks of the Green nappies so what i would like to know is..
How many do i need to start off with ?
How much roughly will i end up spending ?
Can you put them in a dryer ? :o
any tips to make things a little easier ?
Edited - I just thought of another question..
How do you get the stuffing right ? (need tips on that too)
Cheers :D

Depends if you want to use them full time. I slowly added to my collection. I have 26 now & thats just about right for full time use.

About $500 depending on how many you buy. BUT.... you will pay that off within 6 months of full time sposies.
Can you put them in a dyer ?
Yes, on cool/warm setting - not hot
any tips to make things a little easier ?
When I take mine off the line I stuff them straight away so that I dont have to worry about it at the change table. I actually enjoy it ( call me crazy!!)
Oh, & a little squirt for the toilet is helpful for those really runny poos which dont just roll off. :o
Enjoy!!! :D

I had 24 to start off with which is plenty for full time use.
The cost for me was $40 for all 24 cloth nappies
I fold mine up when I get them of the line too so that they are all made ready to use. If you find it hard to put the pin through the nappy run it through your hair first and it goes through with ease.
They also come in different sizes newborn and older my son is now 10 weeks and soon will need the bigger ones.

Thank-you PoshBecks.. i'm glad to know that you can put them in the dryer :D
Sha - I've decided to not use flats because IMO they are time consuming and thats something i dont have much of.. Thank-you anyway :hugs:

Is that for terry flats?
Greens kids are more expensive, easier to use though & are one size fits most (newborn to toddler). :)

Yes that price is for terry flats Yes and normally they do fot from birth to toddler but I found some that were for newborn so that they were not falling off my son.
It takes only 5 mins if that to fold the nappies not time consuming at all. Hubby normally folds them he is the expert at that. Learnt something in pregnancy classes.

I'd recommend a trial pack at first to see how well they fit your bub without spending lots of $$ on something that may not suit. I really believe in trying a few different brands/styles to make sure you have something that's perfect for you and bubs before stocking up on a full set.
How many you will need depends on how often you plan on washing eg. at 3 months DS was probably still having 10 pooey changes per day multiply by the number of days between washes plus a few extra as back up. The beauty of pockets (like Greens) is that the pocket themselves dry so quickly so you can get away with having more stuffers and fewer pockets.
How much roughly will i end up spending ?
:) Depends on the brand/style, how many you need and if you become addicted or not LOL
Can you put them in a dryer ?
Yes, warm setting for the stuffers but I would avoid putting any PUL pockets in the dryer on a regular basis. The pockets dry so quickly that my polyester PUL ones are practically dry before I even hang them on the line.
any tips to make things a little easier ?
A little squirt! As cute as the cotton print PUL pockets are, get some solid colour polyester PUL ones too because they are less likely to wick and easier to use first up. Also, I've found using a combination of microfibre and hemp/bamboo stuffing the best. Just microfibre at home (or short outings) is nice and trim but for longer stints I prefer to have a layer of microfibre on top and a thin hemp booster to help prevent compression leaks.
How do you get the stuffing right ? (need tips on that too)
Just make sure that the stuffer is sitting nice and flat and you don't have any bits of the inner (fleece/suede??) layer touching the clothes which will allow wicking.

I just changed to full time cloth about 3 days ago. I got the baby eco terry fitted nappies, they're one size and we've found them to be fantastic. i only got 10 daytime ones and 5 night time ones for the time being so i need to wash every night.
have fun
Do you know anyone's you can have a look at first? Always a good idea and most cloth mums are more than happy to flash their stash. I'm in Melb. if you wanted a look someitme at what i have, might give you some idea. PM if you want:)

How many do i need to start off with ? I would just try a couple first, make sure you like them then buy up big. I'd try at least a couple of different ones too, not just the one type because what works for others might not work for you and your bub
How much roughly will i end up spending ? it depends how addicted you become lol
Can you put them in a dryer ? I dry my fitteds in the dryer but my fuzzi's which are similar to greens.. I just hang them on my towel rack in the bathroom as the heating vent is underneath it and they try in under an hour there with the door closed :) I dry my inserts in the dryer though at night time, then put them in the bathroom over night to finish them off :)
any tips to make things a little easier ? make sure you follow there washing and care instructions as it definitely prolongs the nappies life and keeps them in great condition :)
Thank-you PoshBecks.. i'm glad to know that you can put them in the dryer :D
Thanks posh! you saved me starting a whole new thread!!
Karnifool............. i have just started using greens and i love them. Am slowly going to build up the collection.
