how do you tell what a reaction was too if ds ate more then one thing that he could have reacted to?
ds has literally filled a nappy with the runs and is now asleep. at a party last night he ate some fried rice that i didnt know had some nut in it i am not sure if its peanut but he spewed a bit of it up and spat some out as well and he also was given a tiny bit of cake by someone so how will i know if it was the rice or the cake as the cake had dairy in it

does your son have a rash? my son had an allergy to pineapple when he was a young bub and came out in a rash on his face and neck.if he had a runny nappy, he may have had a reaction to the nut.

he has a rash on his cheeks it sorta looks like the start of eczema but it isnt eczema and he filled a whole nappy with runs lol
he is lactose intolerant and cant handle dairy or soy.

if he is lactose intolerent, maybe it was the cake that did it. hope he's feeling better soon.

well the rash still hasnt gone away and it seems to be bothering ds a bit he was scratching at his cheeks earlier before he went to sleep.
i dont think it was the cake he only had a 5 cent coin size bit (my younger sister was the culprit who gave it too him) if it was the cake he would be still filling his nappies and also vomiting. but he isnt doing either just has what looks like rash. it hasnt spread. and its nothing like his eczema. could it be hives?

. could it be hives?

My son gets hives on skin contact with milk and it looks like red bumps with white raised centres. Try googling it, I am sure there are photos on the net you could look at to see if this is what your son has got?

As for figuring out what did it, I guess only time will tell, if he has another reaction. Have you taken him to an allergy specialist for testing? We take our son every 6 months to RPA allergy centre for testing.

the only test ds has had is for lactose intolerance and that was just after easter. i keep asking for an referal to get him tested by an allergy specialist but dr keeps makign reasons on why ds doesnt need it like "its a virus", "lets see if he reacts to it again" etc:banghead:

it wasnt hives that ds got. but wasnt eczema either just a red rash  it ended up goign away the next day.

It may not have been the nuts or the dairy that caused the reaction, even tho they are the obvious ones.
My DS got a rash all over him the first time he ate vegemite, he loved the stuff but I had to make sure he avoided it til he was over 2yrs then try him again before the dr would consider it anything serious. He outgrew the allergy by the time he had vegemite a few weeks after his 2nd b'day. We still have no idea what it was in the vegemite that caused his rash coz he has never had any reaction to anything else.

As for your Dr not giving you a referal to a specialist...if it was me I'd be demanding one and not leaving til I got it...maybe you could see a different dr and ask them for the referal. I really don't like drs who like to 'wait and see' especially when it's kids involved, time for a new dr maybe?

Glad your little boy is ok now tho, hopefully it was a one-off thing :fingerscrossed:

yep i get so frustrated when i am told "its only a virus" or "its just a cold" :banghead: if it was just a cold i wouldnt be waiting ages with a sick ds to see the silly dr lol
i am going to ring up my gp and see if she can refer ds to an allergy specialist or organise tests, she organsied ds's referal to the ear nose throat specialist :)

Can you change doctors? Keep going to different ones until you find one to give you a referral. I just went to a GP that had seen my son once before and said "my son has allergies please give me a referral to RPA allergy centre for testing". He gave it to me with no further questions! Depends on your luck I guess - hope you find someone soon.
